The Golden State Warriors have finalized plans to move from Oakland to San Francisco in 2017, the San Jose Mercury News reports via Twitter. They’ll play in a privately financed new arena at Piers 30 and 32 on the San Francisco waterfront.

An official announcement may come as early as Tuesday.

The state-of-art arena will be designed for multiple uses, including concerts, according to the Mercury News.

Of course, any number of logistical issues could push back the timeline for the move. Parking remains a primary concern, the Mercury News notes, as there are only 1,000 parking spaces in the plan.

Bitter-sweet for me, but it's one less reason for me to go to East Oakland, so that's a plus.

San Francisco Rainbows?

no. they will probably still be Golden State Warriors. They could go back to being San Francisco Warriors...

If you must know Oakland is only 10 miles from San Francisco and most of the people who go to Warriors games travel from San Jose anyways. It's not like the fan base is going to disappear.

I'm sure they will. Our current jerseys are sick, and they represent San Francisco (with the bridge).

But regarding the thread, I'm happy about it. Hopefully, I know that's really shooting for the stars regarding the W's, they've put together a competitive team then. i'd definitely go to games.

How about,"The San Francisco Techies". :D

Who do you think the basketball fans there already root for? Warriors dominate the Bay's basketball fans. They'll likely have a fan base growth after the move. New/innovative stadium on the ocean front near the Giants Pac Bell Park - that will draw attention.

It is easy to get to the Stadium and Arena in Oakland it has Bart access and is right off the freeway. I've been to plenty of A's, Raiders and Warriors games in Oakland and never felt unsafe.

Its not just a bridge. its a huge bridge, practically a freeway, filled w cars and pricks and businessmen. the stadium will be jampacked rite in the middle of a metropolis filled w snobs n shoulder2shoulder parking. no easy bus or transit to get to stadium like it was before. it makes huge difference for those on east bay.

take caltrain and then take the Muni. the new arena will be at the Pier 30.

Oakland doesnt have pricks and business mens? i come from santa cruz and the Giants stadium is pretty easy to get to really and to get out of also. and plus doent fremont Bart go pretty damn close to down there anyways? this is a great move, i love Oakland but SF is an obvious marketing upgrade. i do hope they keep the Goldenstate name though, it would be a slap in the face the eastbay fanbase.

no i know that, im just saying they have also built up a core of east bay fans that might take it personal if the Warriors who never changed their name to Oakland all of the sudden go back to the SF name. i just think there is a way to do this move, which is smart and better for the franchise on every level without alienating a decent chunk of your fanbase which eastbay fans are. thats all i mean, i mean if they change it they change it, im not from either town so it makes no difference to me on a personal level i just don't want them to forget about a part of the fanbase when they are trying to gain another part. seems just a bit counter productive, thats why i hope they stay Goldenstate. one think i admire about this team is that this is the one team that all fans come together on in our region i just wouldn't want to see that compromised because of a stupid social rivalry that i could care less about anyways. Bay fans should be stoked about this move and nothing less. this is a good move!

It'll probably stay Golden State. It'd be a bad move if they renamed them San Francisco.

its not like the Warriors will attract better free agents being in SF.

they need to worry about making it out of the lottery.

Nice to see owners care about their future, unlike some owners 100 miles eastward.

They should be ok.

So being in one of the most sought after city's in the world, having owners willing to spend money, and having a brand new state of the art arena won't attract free agents?

Most of the Warriors players live in SF and most of the visiting teams playing the Warriors stay in SF hotels anyway.

Most Players dont want play in California because they pay the HIGHEST taxes in America. (except for LA because its the Lakers)

A New arena will help, but its going to be a pain for people outside of SF to get to the Arena. The Brooklyn Nets will attract better free agents then the Warriors. The warriors just need a Legit STAR and winning tradition to attract Free agents. Blake Griffin did wonders for the Clippers.

btw, we dont need Derek Fisher.

this!

Most of the Warriors fans coming to the games are from the south bay. its going to take at least anouter 30-45 minutes commuting to San Francisco. not to mention $30-$40 for parking!

SMH at the people thinking the fanbase is gonna change. the majority of fans that go to the Warriors games anyways aren't even Eastbay fans. the Fanbase is the entire Bayareas! its not like the other sports fanbases. Warriors was never Oaklands( A's and Raiders are) team no matter how much East bay fans want to think so. i would say the majority of the fanbase resides in the southbay anyways in which they could careless whether its they are driving to SF or Oakland for a game. it absolutely will have no impact negatively what so ever on the fanbase, and Oakland fans who don't want to go 15 miles over the bridge to support them, kick ****in rocks anyways cause you are obviously ****** fans, you should be willing to go he extra distance to watch your team play no questions asked. the only thing that is negative that happens is the rich people buying up the tickets from the real fans the first few years, which sucks but that is what happens with EVERY new stadium, arena, etc... no matter if it was in Oakland, SF, or where ever this happens. this fanbase is unique to the Bay because of its support by everyone raider, niner, giants, A's fans alike, that dynamic won't change hence the Fanbase won't change. people saying the SF side of the fanbase is weaker( of more fairweather or whatever other stupid terms peaople like to use to describe fanbases thesedays) or vise versa are flat out morons and shouldn't be speaking. all sides of the Bay has really great and Loyal as hell fans and some that are fair weather just the same just like most places. Loyalty isn't just a Eastbay thing, far from it. i do feel bad for Oakland as a city from an economic stand point cause it really is a great city with a rich history not just in sports but socially as well just like SF. i hope if they leave that they don't lose all of their teams( for the residents sake) but sports are a huge money making business now days and doing what is going to make the most dollars makes the most sense, and if it was our team we all would do the same thing.

You can tack on an extra hour to an hour and a half with game day traffic.

Bay area traffic from 5-6:15 is unreal. Add to that another 20,000 people trying to ram themselves into a tiny, hemmed in section of the tourist trap waterfront by 7 or 7:30.

It's going to look like the escape scene from "I am legend" when they actually try this out.

I live on the Peninsula. Me and my family used to travel across the bay for the games.

You, East Bayers, can do it too. Anyway since I live near San Mateo, the distance really hasn't changed much....

19 miles vs 25 miles. 19 miles is technically longer if you factor in the traffic in SF. Going towards Oakland, you make up the time on San Mateo bridge.

what's wrong with east oakland?

Just a terrible area. Not the kind of place you want to leave the game and have a drink or go eat dinner. You've got a super walmart, an Airport, and a lot of ghetto. Contrary to popular belief Oakland has some awesome areas of town, but that isn't one of them.

The fans saying how ridiculous traffic will be trying to leave on game nights are right, especially the days they'll have Giants games ending around the same time/place. That'll be hell for those trying to make that trek. I'm farther north though so I'll just hop on the Ferry and walk in.

Anyway, the more I think on it - and especially being that it's privately funded - the better this move sounds.

I do think they should change their name when they move - but not to the San Francisco Warriors. They should be the Bay Area Warriors - though Golden State Warriors is a pretty tough name to beat truth be told.

Bunch of fruitcakes in san fran hahahaha so ironic they have the name Warriors which was originally Philly of course.
Too bad all our franchises are historically winning, and prestigious, and have loyal fanbases, and yours are all mediocre, and have notoriously bad fanbases. I guess this is what they call a "you mad, bro?" moment.

Rumor is it will cost at least a half billion to move to pier 30 & 32. I don't think it's going to happen. I think they'll end up taking the Giants offer and move next to AT&T. But damn, if they can do it, it's going to be sick as fack.
