View Full Version : Should the Lakers entertain trading Kobe?

The series is about to be over and while many people would think this is ridiculous, the Lakers statistically and historically have played better since the Bynum-Gasol era without Kobe.

They did really well when Kobe was injured and an important statistic is the Lakers way below .500 level with Kobe shooting 20+.

He's going to be 34, he gets more stubborn as time goes on and you have a 24-year-old center who put up 18 and 13 this year and is only going to get better.

Kobe's a Laker for life, maybe the 2nd or 3rd greatest Laker ever, but he's going to be making 30 million plus for a couple of years after this and it will cripple their team.

If they traded him to a contender for a Harden-like player and picks, it would seriously help the future of the Lakers.

I mentioned this before and of course I got the "stupid thread" or "stupid idea" comments from the Lakers fans.

Apparently they believe that they are going to trade Gasol and get another star/superstar player and everything is going to be fine and Kobe will win a 6th Championship.

Its obvious to anyone who isn't emotionally invested in the Lakers that the Lakers aren't contenders anymore in the West. They got swept in Round 2 by Dallas, and now will lose in 5 to OKC.

Kobe's not getting any younger.

First of all, that would be disrespectful and a slap in the face to one of the greatest Laker players ever.

Second of all, who the hell would take him?

A team would have to take his contract and with the new CBA who could afford it or would attempt to do so? Not to mention he would have to approve it.

his contract is unaffordable for any team except lakers.
you'll have him for the rest of his contract .
but I wonder what you can get with gasol, session... not sure you'll find really good deal

Lakers have a plan to stick it back to stern for the chris paul veto. kobe is making millions off his endorsements. Has plenty of cash in the bank. he will be willing to make a sacrifice ala jordan and magic back in the day and let the Lakers amnesty him to free up the cash needed to bring in players. they will give him a longer term deal that is more cap friendly and stern can bend over backwards and kiss his own @$$
