I don't know that's a good question

Great question. Both I guess? Has a similar situation ever presented itself?

I just put both because there is no justification to retire a specific one. Only way both are not retired if Kobe specifically states which one he wants retired.

I think it's gonna be 8

24

After the Lakers' season ended, Bryant said on TNT that he wanted 24 as a rookie, but it was unavailable, as was 33, retired with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

2006 season.

It'll be 24. That's what he changed to. That's what he prefers.

I would say 24. As far as individual accomplishments, he achieved his MVP, scoring titles as well as two time finals MVP when he wore 24. It really separates him from his Shaq days. Ultimately I guess thats for Kobe to decide.

24. He cemented his legacy wearing this number.

Should be both but I remember the #8 Kobe as the best player in the game with freakish athletic ability if only he had a good team those 4 bad years

depends if they want to make a statue of a bald-headed Kobester, or one of him flying high with a lil' gay fro. I'd go for KB8... but in the end IDGAF.

MJ? Granted, he only played with 45 for half a season and it was considered bad luck anyway since they got ousted by the Magic.

32 is already retired. Please don't make me remind you which great Laker wore that number.

That's why they're not comparable, lol.

10 yrs as #8

By the time his contract is up, it'll be 8 yrs as #24

I'd say have a jersey that says Bryant and 8/24.

He won MVP with 24 i chose that one. Despite winning 1 less ring, he wasn't 2nd fiddle to anyone wearing 24. 8 will forever be remembered as well though.

#24 will be retired and there will be an unwritten rule that no one gets #8

8! Whatever number is worn the longest should be retired in my opinion

why not?

the lakers retire the numbers of hall of famers. what he accomplished solely as #8 from '96-'97 through '05-'06 would land him a spot in the hall. what he's accomplished from '06-'07 through '11-'12 as #24 would also land him in the hall.

both. nobody wears #8 or #24 again for the Lakers. I'm sure Bryants statue in front of staples will have one number on front, the other on the back.

i'm still waiting for a coherent sentence from this guy.

hardly. Kobe has put up a TS% of .558 as #24 (since '06-'07). Bryants most efficient scoring year came in 2007 as #24 (.580).

he's not goin anywhere anytime soon, did you see the post-game conference?

plus, he just had a total resurgence after last season. He's 5th in the post-season in PER; he matched his 2010 post-season PER this year after last years drop off.
