Saw on ESPN that they ran this poll, and 55% of the voters think that it doesn't even rank in the top 5 all time. IMO, this is the 2nd best rivalry after Celtcs/Lakers. The rivalry may not be as intense as it once was, but there are few, if any, rivalries that span over several decades the way this one has.

Where does this rivalry rank "all time"?

What rivalries rank ahead of it?

Definitely top 3 in NBA history, if you know the history. Obviously it has died out ever since the 80s ended, since neither team has been good at the same time too often the past two decades.

It has tradition spanning several decades, no other rivalry can claim that. But for it to be relevant today, it has to redevelop today, thats not going to happen given the age of the Celtics. They wont stay relevant for much longer and the Sixers have to make a bigger jump.

But historically, yes, its up there with any other NBA rivalry.

Why did you change the 3 in the quote to a 5 you are blatantly misrepresenting what you are quoting.

I read it as him agreeing with everything antig said except the number, so used a modified quote to show that rather than just re-writing all the words again. It's a pretty common thing on forums. Nothing to be upset about.

It's also possible the original post said 5 and got edited after antig hit the 'quote' button.

It's generally fallen off since the mid 80's which is a long time.

But as I always say the 1981 ECF is the best NBA series of all time.

If you count it as Philly and not just 76'ers, you get the Philly Warriors tossed in for good measure too.

What?

I said this because I agreed with everything he said.

Would anyone who voted "not top 5" care to explain why they chose that option?

All-time it's top 3, but it's not top 5 right now, and that's all that matters.
