Not trying to be a homer..But Bill Russell/Sam Jones hasn't been mentioned once?? Bill Russell is in my opinion a top 3 player of all time and Sam Jones in the most underrated celtic ever.

* 86th all time in total win shares
* 33rd all time in WS/48 (Ahead of guys like Hakeem)

They are arguably the best duo in celtics History, The duo won 10 titles together.

Taking length of time together, team success, the strength of their competition, the players' peaks and primes and their overall talent into consideration, this would be my top 5 in order:

1. MJ and Pippen
2. Magic and Kareem
3. Bird and McHale
4. Russell and Cousy/Jones/Hondo
5. Kobe and Shaq

MJ and Pippen's run from 91-98 is unparalleled and they had some pretty weak supporting casts compared to some of the other guys on this list. Magic and Kareem had a ton of talent and were really more of a trio (Worthy), but they won titles together and they're both top 5 guys. Bird and McHale also were more of a trio (Parrish), but won titles together and are both top 25 guys. I knocked Russell and Co. down a bit, because those Celtics teams of the 60s were stacked and it's hard to pinpoint a definitive No. 2, plus those duos against today's NBA players would get slaughtered. And Kobe and Shaq are fifth because they should have accomplished so much more together if they didn't bicker like children and Kobe hadn't really reached his peak until after Shaq left.

Honorable mentions:
Wilt and West
Duncan and Parker/Manu
Hakeem and Clyde
Oscar and Kareem
Frazier and Reed
Stockton and Malone

Jordan and Pippen are my number 1...

Man, what kind of duo would Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill would have been if both of them were healthy during their time in Orlando? At the time, I think Hill was putting together 20, 5, and 5 seasons and McGrady really came into his own as a star while Hill was out. Those 2 together would have been great. As great as James and Wade are now...

Well, since all the most obvious, and legitimately "best", tandems have already been stated, I'm just going to go with my personal favorites. And honestly, the amount of rings a tandem have won together shouldn't be too much of a factor. i.e. Stockton-Malone. Anyone who says they're not an all-time best duo simply because they aren't wearing any rings needs to watch some old game footage.

Starting with my homer picks:
C-Webb and Vlade
C-Webb and Bibby
Wayman Tisdale and Mitch Richmond

Non-homer picks:
Kemp and Payton
Hakeem and Drexler
Barkley and KJ
The Admiral and Timmy
MJ and Bill Cartwright

Are you kidding me, dude? I don't know how any educated NBA fan could honestly see Duncan and Parker as the third greatest duo of all time when you consider Magic/Kareem, Bird/McHale, Russell and all the great players he played with or Wilt/West. Parker's a very good player, but there are so many duos in the history of the league where two top 20 or (at least) top 50 guys joined forces.

I used Duncan/Parker as an honorable mention, but if I really sat down and took a serious look at this, they probably wouldn't crack my top 10. To put them third is just ignorant...

1. The Pistons, more than any other NBA champion, were a reflection of a team win not a duo.
2. Gun to my head, I'm giving the credit for the title to Big Ben and Billups, not Rasheed.
3. He never said your example was a great duo. You made that up. It's similar to when people throw out "Oh so Robert Horry is better than Charles Barkley" nonsense. He's just saying there are other duos just as talented that actually won titles. Not that wild of a leap.
