He's officially Dr. O'Neal now.

NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal received his doctoral degree in Education from Barry University Saturday morning alongside another 1,100 students during multiple commencement ceremonies at the James L. Knight Center.

Like all things done by the four-time world champion, 15-time All-Star, movie star, rapper and entertainer, O'Neal, 40, received his degree in Organizational Learning and Leadership with a specialization in Human Resource Development in style.

Wearing a bright red XXXL-sized robe, the 7-foot, 1, 325-pound retired center got on one knee on stage so Dr. David M. Kopp could place a light blue hood around his big neck. O'Neal celebrated by standing up and lifting up Kopp like Tarzan rescuing Jane. The moment, which was being captured by TV cameras and student's cell phones, brought on loud cheers from the crowd.

O'Neal then walked over hugged Terry Piper the dean for the school of education before posing for photos with his cap, gown and hood like all the other students. On his way back to his seat, alongside his manager Cynthia Atterberry, who also received a doctorate in education, O'Neal strolled by a star struck row of graduates handing out high-fives like he was walking past teammates on the bench.

O'Neal achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.813 while completing 54 credit hours at Barry - mostly through online courses and video conferencing over the last four years. His Doctoral Capstone Project was titled: "How Leaders Utilize Humor or Seriousness in Leadership Styles."

With his mother and family sitting in the crowd, O'Neal stayed through the entire two hour commencement ceremony and held a press conference when the event was over.

Every athlete should look to Shaq. He has done so much right. Just because he's one of the most gifted athletes ever, he's still achieving more than most humans can do. Money will never be an issue with a guy like him because of his skills and intelligence.

How in the world did he get a doctorate with 54 credits. That is not even enough for a two year degree.

Did he pay his way to get it?

If he didn't, that's a pretty good GPA.

even if shaq only had a high school diploma he will not go broke. the reason is because this guy is pretty well liked by the public, and considering people still love him even though he cheated (which other stars have lost a lot of fans too), that shows how good of a personality he has. He will always be in entertainment because of this and will always be racking in money. for god sake he made 7 million from Kazaam. the movie itself only generated like double that.

His doctoral program was 54 credits. They don't count the credits you got at the undergraduate level. You usually have to have a masters degree to enter a doctoral program, but you can join some doctoral programs straight from your bachelors. In total, counting his first year of college at LSU to now, he probably has around 200-250 credits.

Given how high profile Shaq is, I doubt he would pay for anyone to do the courses for him. He'd only be building a house of cards if he did. I wouldn't rule out, though, that he used all of his resources and influence in order to get the best help possible in terms of research tools, tutors, access to experts and focus groups, etc. It's what I'd do.

Shaq would probably make a good high school teacher. He relates well to kids and given the right subject, I'm sure he'd drive home the core principles in a way that would make learning fun.
