http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_453344.jpg vs http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_429717.jpg
Brandon Morrow.........Dan Haren
2-1, 3.03 ERA..........1-1, 3.34 ERA

Morrow is coming off his most impressive start of the season, as he blanked Seattle over six innings while striking out a season-high nine batters and walking none. He improved to 2-1 on the year and lowered his ERA to 3.03 in the process.

Haren gave up just one run on four hits in an eight-inning outing against the Indians on Saturday, giving him his first win of the season and moving his ERA to 1.64 over his last three starts -- a span of 22 innings.

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_506693.jpg vs http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_429722.jpg
Henderson Alvarez..........Ervin Santana
1-2, 3.62 ERA..........0-5, 6.16 ERA

Alvarez earned his first victory of the season after allowing just one run against the Mariners during his last start. Alvarez has recorded 10 quality starts in just 15 career outings and continues to be one of the club's most consistent starters.

Santana's record isn't totally indicative of his season. On Sunday, he had his best start of the year, giving up no earned runs in seven innings against the Indians, but was hurt by a struggling offense and a two-run error from Torii Hunter.

Saturday, May 5, 9:05 PM EST

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_475138.jpg vs http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_450351.jpg
Kyle Drabek.............C.J. Wilson
2-2, 2.40 ERA..........3-2, 2.70 ERA

Drabek struck out a career-high eight batters during his last start against the Rangers. He has allowed two runs or less in all five of his starts this season but has only two wins to show for it because of a lack of run support.

Wilson cruised through seven scoreless frames versus the Twins on Monday, giving up just three hits and putting only one runner in scoring position. He then gave up three runs in an eighth inning he said he was "too amped" for, but still got the win.

Sunday, May 6, 3:35 PM EST

http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_571800.jpg vs http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_425532.jpg
Drew Hutchison..........Jerome Williams
1-0, 6.61 ERA............2-1, 3.55 ERA

Hutchison earned the no-decision in his last start against the Rangers, allowing five earned runs while working a career-high six innings. The 21-year-old will take a 1-0 record and 6.61 ERA into his next outing.

Williams threw his first shutout in nearly nine years on Tuesday, limiting the Twins to just three hits and one walk in a 4-0 win that saw him get 15 outs on ground balls. The 30-year-old has a 1.98 ERA in his last three starts.

Morrow hopes to extend Blue Jays' win streak in Anaheim

A 10-game road trip for the Blue Jays starts Thursday, when they open a four-game set with the Angels, who are fresh off a revitalizing win in witnessing Jered Weaver's no-hitter on Wednesday.

Toronto has won two in a row, while the Halos are coming off a sweep of the Twins capped off by Weaver's no-no.

The rest of the Angels' rotation has performed well of late, too. Los Angeles starters have put together 11 quality starts in their past 12 games.

Right-hander Dan Haren is scheduled to start for the Halos on Thursday, coming off a one-run, eight-inning effort against the Indians in a 2-1 win on Saturday. Another righty, Brandon Morrow, goes for Toronto.

"We've gone a couple of times around the rotation now where we're getting the pitching that we feel we expected," Halos manager Mike Scioscia said. "We just haven't been able to match it with the offensive support to take advantage of it, but that pitching is really the hallmark of our club, and we need to keep getting those good starts after good starts."

Haren's ERA in his past three starts, a 22-inning span, is 1.64.

Morrow is coming off his most impressive start of the season, six shutout innings against Seattle with a season-high nine strikeouts and no walks. He improved to 2-1 in the 7-0 win and lowered his ERA to 3.03 in the process.

"He has this capability every time he steps to the mound," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "When you combine a well-above-average fastball with the command that he showed today in addition to three other offspeed pitches, he has the ability to not only take over the game, but dominate the opposition."

This series is the second of two in a seven-game homestand for the Angels.

Blue Jays: Jays have another righty in bullpen
Left-hander Evan Crawford has been optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas and righty Joel Carreno has been recalled. Carreno threw a scoreless ninth while striking out two in Wednesday's 11-5 win over Texas.

"We wanted to get another right-handed reliever here," Farrell said. "With today and a predominantly right-handed-hitting team in Texas and the Angels are going to be the same type of lineup, where there's primarily right-handed hitters throughout. That's where we felt another right-handed pitcher was needed. Evan was the guy who was the optionable reliever. It had nothing to do with performance or anything like that."

Angels: Speedy Trout
Angels third-base coach Dino Ebel clocked Mike Trout's time to run from first to home at 3.53 seconds on a third inning bunt single Tuesday against the Twins.

Ebel has been clocking home-to-first times since he joined Scioscia's coaching staff for the 2006 season.

Trout's time was the lowest he has ever recorded.

"That's the first one," Ebel said. "Especially from the right side of the plate. It was pretty impressive. He's blessed with speed."

It would be nice to see the offence actually score some runs for Alvarez, you know, just for ****s and giggles.

Went for a split series, not confident facing Haren or Wilson.

I also think that Pujols is going to hit his first HR this series.

Its going to be a good pitching duel. I wouldnt look at their 10-15 record, this is a good team that just hasnt had the offense they thought they would have (sounds familiar).

No game is safe for us to win, we are going to have to earn every win we get in LA. Theyre losing on the road, not so much at home. It looks like Ervin Santana isnt doing so well, but its not a guaranteed win, historically, the Blue Jays are the team he is the best against.

Either way, getting a series split here is optimistic at best, and we arent even facing Jered Weaver.

I went super optimistic for fun and said 3/4.

Tough pitching matchups but whatever .

Looks like the Angels are just starting to get it going not a good time to be facing them but we get another 4 game road series out of the way early. Would be extremely nice to get the series win but I'm not holding my breath. If we can at least get a split that would be fantastic.

bomber0104
05-03-2012, 11:39 AM
This is gonna be a really tough series. The Angels have the pitching advantage in everyone of these matchups and as people said, we have struggled big time against Haren and Santana in the past. Just like us, the Angels offense hit a tonne last night game and are probably due for a breakout.

Add that with the fact that our offense has been non-existent on the road, its gonna be very hard to get a split here.

its definitely home to 1st.. it usually takes 3 plus seconds for each base

the_jon

Yeah going 1st to home in 3.5 seconds is not even physically possible lol. That would be like running almost the full 100 meter dash in well under half the time of the actual world record, while making turns.

Like i said in the previous game thread. Morales, Hunter, Kendrick, and Trumbo have all been on a roll so far this season, All their pitchers are coming of great starts. I still say we get 2/4.

It's going to be a tough series especially with the Angels momentum boost after Weaver's no-hitter last night. Also, how long until Pujols hits a HR? He's due, and it's very likely with the likes of Morrow/Alvarez pitching. I'm being very optimistic here voting Jays take 3/4.

I'll be optimistic and say we win 3/4

Are they trying to get Lind's trade value up? Well they're not fooling anybody around the league. Just because he bats 4th doesn't make him a legitimate clean-up hitter.

BTW, I am new to the forums, quite opinionated and will criticize until I see the Jays make the post-season.

One of my biggest complaints this year is how the line-up/bull-pen has been handled along with some questionable call-ups. I'll try to keep it to a minimum here and express these views on the right thread!

Pretty sure I heard this on fan590... Farrell has said that he's not gonna make any major changes in the batting order until a batter has reached 100 at bats. Lind is sitting at 79 ab's now. So in 5 games or so, possibly after this series, I would bet Lind gets yanked from the 4 spot if he doesn't have a good series against the Angels.

I'm inclined to agree. Although, just to think outside the box, would Lawrie be somewhat similar to a guy like Kinsler in that role? Someone with speed, power and an ability to get on base. I'd prefer him in the 3/4 spots, but he wouldn't be a bad leadoff I'd think either.

Dol-Fan
