Per Netsdaily

Wendell Maxey, who covered the Nets for HoopsWorld and now writes on international basketball, says Andrei Kirilenko has verbally agreed to a three-year deal with the Nets, tweeting that he "spoke with two contacts in russia close to andrei kirilenko. say AK to brooklyn nets deal in place. plans to sign 3-year after euroleague."

Kirilenko, the likely Euroleague MVP, plays for CSKA Moscow, which was owned by Mikhail Prokhorov and managed by Nets director Sergei Kushchenko. CSKA is currently in the Euroleague Final Four, which ends in two weeks. Maxey adds that "at this point, just verbal agreement in place with AK/nets. no contract in place, amount of deal on known but has been in works all season." Kirilenko, of course, played six years with Deron Williams in Utah.

The Nets were talking with Kirilenko prior to the season but once Brook Lopez went down, Billy King switched gears and instead used his cap space to acquire Mehmet Okur, who later went down with a season-ending back injury. Kirilenko has recently said positive things about Prokhorov who he supported in the Russian presidential elections.

This makes no sense. So is Wallace gone then? Great use of a lottery pick if he is

Maybe they play AK at the 4?

I don't think that would work in all truth. If that is the case, then why not just keep Hump? He's a solid enough PF.

Think of Ak as a Lamar Odom type of player pre the mental hiatus
He can Play the 2,3,4,or 5
GWallace will Still Be on the team
It takes a strong rotation of 8 Players to win a title

^ Plus we knew Ak would be back, Prok probably paid him over in Russia to take a team friendly contract here in the states!!!

now that is going to brooklynn, thats how the cousins would do it if there was a salary cap on the trash business in brooklynn

Yup AK would likely be the sixth man or something like that. He can play many different positions and defend them well. He can also hit an open 3 and since we haven't seen him we don't know about his other offensive repertoire.

All this means they will package Gerald Wallace with Lopez for Dwight.

Lopez,Wallace,1rd pick for Dwight.

Orl would be stupid not to ask for Brooks. Maybe they're looking to play AK in a Rashard Lewis type role next to Dwight?

Unless it's a sign and trade with G. Wallace to Orlando, I believe the Nets would have to wait a few months before trading Wallace to any team.

He's probably going to come off the bench. Billy King is looking to sign G-Wall long term. They want both guys to go along with DWill, Dwight and possibly Marshon Brooks (If he's not involved in the trade).

I'm guessing Wallace opts in. Nobody else will give him 11.4 mill next year. The Nets have a lot of personnel issues to address.

Remember Brook has a qualifying offer this summer, and you know some team will throw big money his way. Gerald Green needs to be re-up'd. What happens to Hump, who's a FA this summer?

In terms of draft picks, the Nets have some problems. The Nets most likely lost their lottery pick, and now they've lost Houston's pick I believe. Right now the Nets essentially have no picks in the draft... they have Miami's 2nd rounder, which may be the last pick in this year's draft.

I don't even know how they'll try and get Howard. No valuable draft picks, they won't have Hump and Okur's expirings to take back Hedo's deal. I just don't get how they'll pull it off.

Is he for sure? Kind of a strange move wouldn't you think? 11.4 is a lot to give up for a single year's work.

i agree with this.

but i dont think he can play the 2 or 5.

but ak47 can be a great rotational player who can come off the bench, play the 3 or 4 and provide alot of depth for that team.

possible 6th man candidate.

but if howard comes in he will be 30X better then boozer was thats for sure.

Enlighten me. Because I have no clue what Billy King has been doing over the past few months.

I don't understand how they'd get Howard if that's what your referring to. Brook + Marshon for Howard straight up? That would have to be a sign and trade too, cause Brook has a qualifying offers coming his way this offseason. No more Hump + Okur, means no taking back Hedo's deal.

Orlando would trade him to a rental team this summer for something way better, because the team that's "renting" Howard, gets him for an entire year

He could come off the bench too. No one said he'll start.
Figure if Howard is there it won't matter. If Brooklyn gets AK, keeps Deron, Wallace, and adds Howard, I really have to take my hat off to that owner. He said he'd get the team a ring within 5 years I think and he'd be on his way to doing so. No guarantees but still a nice start.

Wallace has nothing to do woth this, they want guys that can play multiple positions, and they both do.

Wallace might leave, but not because of Kirilenko.

It makes perfect sense signing AK cheap. Trade Wallace and Lopez or Brooks and Lopez plus pick for D12. if we do the second one(which I prefer) our lineup is:

D.Williams/J.Farmar
G.Green/A.Morrow
G.Wallace/A.Kirilenko
K.Humphries/J.Williams
D.Howard/S.Williams

Maybe they use Crash in a trade with Orlando.

Lopez/Wallace

for

Howard.

Then they could have a line up of

Howard
Humphries
Kirilenko
Brooks
Williams

That looks like a damn good starting 5.

sign and trade only

Yup. Problem though is that he doesn't have to agree to a sign-and-trade. He's a UFA, so he can go wherever he wants.

Maybe the Nets are trying to sign him long-term? Less money but more years?

Its a backup plan people.

GForce wants Brooklyn and Brooklyn wants him but if something happens where we cant sign him, AK becomes the starter.

Also, both of them can play either the 3 or 4.

of course it is....domefavors cut out that specific part of the report from netsdaily. This is the actual post.

Wendell Maxey, who covered the Nets for HoopsWorld and now writes on international basketball, says Andrei Kirilenko has verbally agreed to a three-year deal with the Nets, tweeting that he "AK to brooklyn nets deal in place. plans to sign 3-year after euroleague." But Stefan Bondy tweets in response, "Multiple sources say report of verbal agreement between Nets and Kirilenko on a 3-year deal is not accurate."
