LeBron and Kobe would get killed for this from the media. Why does KD get a pass?

How many playoff games has KD played compared to the others?
KD is a lot younger. Give him a bigger sampling and then we can judge.

It's been two games, and they are up 2-0?

Winning solves everything, hence why KB's shot selection is often overlooked and the same reason Lebron is so often criticized.

KD gets a pass because he's young and everyone is hopeful that these numbers will improve. Greatness is a progression.

Kobe and LeBron, on the other hand, are no longer kids. They are veterans who not only carry their teams, but carry the league. As such, they are more than fair game for just criticism.

Cause they are up 2-0. How about that? If they were down 0-2, you would hear nothing but criticism from the media.

Plus, KD played hero and scored the game winning basket in game 1. So what you missed most of your shots......he made the shot that MATTERED!

haha what a stat whore.....the team is up 2 - 0 and you are wondering why a player is shooting 41%. Welcome to the internet age I guess.

brb terribly small sample size.

brb averaged 29/8/3 on 45% shooting through 17 playoff games last year

brb still 23 years old

KD is shooting 34% in the Mavs series. That's horrible. Westbrook is picking up KD's slack.

He shot 41% from the beginnig of his career (25 games), not only this season.

But yeah, it's still a pretty small sample size.

I don't think Durant shooting 41% is affecting the Thunder right now because Westbrook is playing well and the bigs (Ibaka, Perkins) are locking down the paint and blocking shots.

I kind of thought wing players and point guards who shot over 40% are ok for the time being? If he was shooting in the 20s or 30s, then I would be concerned.

I'm sure the matrix guarding Durant has a little to do with his % right now.

It's because it's overlooked in wins. If they were losing, him and Westbrook would be torched by the media and internet goons like us. Small sample size? Please, he's been in the league five years, is the leading scorer perenially, and has been in plently of playoff games.

small sample size and winning matters more then individual stats.
So what would you say if he was averaging 35 points on 62% shooting in this series and the Mavericks were up 2-0?

Because KD isn't at that point of his career where he receive a ton of critism for every little thing. Plus he's a likeable personality. He's the anti-LeBron as of right now and will be receiving passes as long as he's viewed as such.

He's young, played great last year, and has had some great defenders on him in the small amount of playoff games he has played in.

Credit Marion more so than discredit Durant.

The lack of understanding surrounding how stats directly relate to production and production directly increases win probability is astonishing.

If he shoots 47%, there is no need for a game-winner, it's already won.

So, they all mattered. Funny how that works, isn't it? It just doesn't fit our convenient myths.

I like KD as person but shooting 41% is not good at all, 45% are better is what they like to see i saw NO true improvement in his game for this season russel got rich too quick not putting time in the gym and his thinking instead of playing reason why i pick the grizz to come out the west harden is their best overall player

I don't think anyone discredits that idea or isn't acknowledging that KD is shooting a lower percentage than average. But the point is if you win games you can overlook mistakes, bottom line. If he didn't win then we would be talking more about his shooting percentages. Granted he gets to the free throw line so much his field goal percentage doesn't hurt as much.

Nope Westbrrok would get torched. Even when Artest made KD his *****, people in the media put the series loss on Westbrook being limited by Kobe the last two games

Had he made more shots earlier in the game, there wouldn't need to be a last shot.

Had he made less shots in the regular season, there wouldn't be a first shot.

Also bear in mind that he takes a lot of threes and his shoots a lot of FT's at a very high percentage. His TRUE SHOOTING % is much better than simply "41% FG". That's a stat for simpletons, although KD will likely be the 45+% from the field that he was in last years run going forward.

And by the way westbrook shot better than kobe in the regular season but the only thing you ever hear is westbrook just keeps chuckin and brickin they just let kobe go under the radar...if thats not favoritisim I dont know what is.

You have to give the Mavs and Shawn Marion some credit in the first two games here. Most of his shots are contested and and they're forcing him to spots on the floor where he's least efficient.

That might change in time.

Like I said, guys like LeBron and Wade are the face of the league right now. When that mantle gets passed on to KD along with the expectation of multiple titles, he will get criticized much more heavily.

Then again, he may just fly under the radar his entire career like Duncan, if he wins and remains a likeable guy. Hard to tell at this point. We'll have to see how he develops and what results as a consequence of those growing pains.

Help defense has been great by the Mavs, he's been swarmed as soon as he drives and Marion and Kidd have been menaces on the passing lanes. Durant has been getting good looks in terms of jumpers, he's just not been hitting em?

Want to see how he performs at Dallas, should be interesting.

I would say that his team is letting him down. The fact that he's shooting poorly means his team has compensated for his relatively poor play. Mind you, I'm not criticizing KD here as it is only two games, but individual stats don't become irrelevant when you're winning.
