This will be a tougher game than last time. Maybe no Jordan Hill? I don't expect Lawson to continue trying to lay the ball in past Bynum.

I expect Lawson to bounce back in this game. The Lakers better not be lazy and overconfident, otherwise I see the Nuggets stealing this one.

Denver is going to try to have a Brokeback mountain game with a lot of penetration and kickouts to 3pt shooters instead of going just directly to the basket and getting blocked by Bynum.

If I'm the Lakers, Ron or no Ron, I don't care right now for the time being.

I want them to dispatch Denver in 4. No need to risk injuries by sabotaging one or two games and having the series go 6 or 7. We saw what happened with D.Rose, it can happen to any of our star players. No thanks!

If we're without Ron for the first 2 games against OKC or Dallas, then so be it. We have to suffer the consequences when that time comes. But I don't want to be sabotaging their 1st round on purpose. The basketball gods will watch and will make us pay if we purposely tank games to extend the series and wait for Ron to come back.

Why so we can have MWP for the whole next round? I get you, but i think we win game 2... lose game 3 and take game 4 and 5. Denver will have one game where their shooters get hot and get them a game.

There is absolutely no way that they purposely let a game get away. More likely what will happen though is that if the Lakers are up 2-0 or 3-0, they are gonna relax and play poorly one game. I think this series goes at least 5 games. Hard to think that Denver wont be able to win one game at home.

It would have made the difference in this game.

Look, I'm not saying the Nuggs couldn't have played better, but it's just a drag that in the NBA investing in stars isn't just investing in talent, it's investing in manipulating the officiating in your team's favor. It is how it is, but that doesn't mean that's how it should be. It feeds into a cycle of inequity, where heavily favored teams pile on even that much more of an advantage, when ostensibly they really shouldn't even need it in the first place.

Kobe made some truly amazing shots, clean. He also made at least 3 or 4 by fouling the defender to create space, without ever getting called for it. Why? because he's... KOBE!!!! :jumpy: Therefore he's allowed to get away with a ton of **** that unrecognized dudes like Afflalo will just get screwed on. So yeah, in a 4-point game, those few shots would have made the difference. Which isn't to take away from the rest of his performance. But put this matchup on a level playing field and it's a different series already.

Denver wasn't good enough through the season to get home court. They are not that good of a team and the record shows that. Sure they can beat the Lakers a game or 2 in a 7 game series but they won't win the series. Even when Denver had a "Star' they only made it out of round 1 once.

Uh, the Lakers had a "whopping" 3 more wins than the Nuggets in 2011-12, and that's in a season in which the Lakers were in the weakest division in the West, and Denver was hit MUCH harder by injuries (and Wilson Chandler's absence) all season long (with the Lakers injuries mostly hitting role players and the Nuggets injuries hitting guys like Gallinari, Lawson and Chandler). I'd go so far as to say that when you take into account expectations, the Nuggets (who many were predicting to be a lottery team) had a bettter season than L.A., who ended up sandwiched between the much lesser-esteemed Pacers and Grizzlies in the final league standings.

But all of that is beside the real point I was making (which you didn't address) about the inequity of the NBA, where buying stars buys wins in part by buying the favoritism of the officiating crews. If a team doesn't have any of the league's darling golden boys, they're at an automatic disadvantage before the opening tip-off even gets tossed up.

There were two plays that looked like they could be like the offensive fouls you are describing and Kerr, who notoriously and deservingly laments the Lakers (due to his Spurs and Suns days), made a mission to point them out. Neither of them looked like clear offensive fouls, let alone an egregious one that could be called "bloody murder." In fact, watch the highlights, the dude does not extend his off-arm past the point where your arm is at an angle that isn't parallel to the other.

A player is not allowed to use her hands or arms to force her way past an opponent or push an opponent aside. It also is not legal for a player to use her hands or arms to prevent an opponent from freely moving anywhere on the basketball court. It is not legal for a player dribbling or shooting the ball to push away a defender who is attempting to steal the ball or block a shot.

Kobe abided by these rules in the plays you were referring to.

Offensive fouls are pretty damn often called in the NBA when the ball handler lowers his shoulder into the defender.

:laugh2: That's what you said in your previous post, too, then totally ignored my response. The Lakers only won 3 more games than Denver this season, and the Nuggets were ravaged by injuries while L.A. was pretty much at full strength the entire season.

And "you need stars to win" doesn't justify the refs giving stars unfair preferential treatment. Although by implying that it does, aren't you really saying your stars need some extra help because they can't rely on their awesome starness alone to get the job done themselves?

I'm also amused that it's supposed to be some kind of dig on the Nuggs that a limelight hungry diva douchebag wanted to go bright lights big city. By the time he was traded, almost all Denver fans were more than happy to say good riddance to Melo... and LaLa.

Interesting notion. I honestly disagree that the defender gets the benefit of the doubt from those plays (more often than not, I see blocking fouls called rather than the offensive foul) and I disagree that those specific Kobe plays fall under this category of offensive foul.

If Denver is only 3 games worse than the Lakers then they will take this series 7 games. Dallas is better than Denver even though they are the 7 seed. Should be over in 5.

Somebody should probably tell Dallas that, since they certainly aren't actually doing any better in the playoffs.

What are you basing "better" on? Just the marquee?
