His defense on West-BRICK was nothing less than championship elite. Reminded me of Game 5 in LA of the 2010 1st round against OKC.

It's not as bad as the Gold Gloves...but it sometimes is close.

I seen Westbrook getting to the basket whenever he decided to.

That's because of Perkins setting good hard screens. But most often than not, Kobe was able to get through those screens or was able to work around it and get back to Russ.

meloman1592

Westbrook just missed everything he put up...he was getting to the basket at will with Kobe guarding him. Honestly, Conley and Shumpert deserve 1st team honors...Maybe even Avery Bradley

Kobe is a good defender, but better the Tony Allen? No Way.

Kobe is good when he's motivated on that end. He's not consistent enough to get this award though.

Sure. But at this point, he's far from 1st team caliber. There are a lot of better perimeter defenders these days. No?

Shump, Bradley, and Allen are the only ones in Kobe's league.

Eg714

The reason why Kobe is not playing defense like he use to is because his legs are not there any more. he is not as quick as he use to be.

LeBron, Iggy, Brewer, Russy, Matthews Deng, Wade, Rondo, Thabo, Marion, Crash, Afflalo etc. are all also better perimeter defenders IMO. Hard to throw the PGs in that discussion though...they're tougher to compare. Anyone see Chris Singleton play? Dude can defend too.

Also, remember that no respect is given to positions for All-Defense team...so that's kinda why I expanded it from SGs to "perimeter" defenders...

Star power does matter, so he'll probably make it again. Hell, Derek Jeter is still winning gold gloves...why can't Kobe get on the first team? He's actually more deserving than Jeter...

I saw Westy swung by Kobe everytime he wanted. But Kobe was putting efforts tonight to defend Westy. Kobe definitely deserves to be on the 1st team all nba as the hands down best perimeter defender on the planet and may be of all time. He takes a dump on other perimeter defenders and pippen. He's THAT good.

Super.

No, but Ebanks hustle and athleticism matched KD's athleticism. Ebanks was quick to the ball, his rotations to KD were on spot, and he just made KD's pull up J's and drive to the baskets simply uncomfortable. GIve the 2nd yr guy credit, he showed up big time after MWP got tossed and Barnes kept getting owned on that end guarding KD.

Shump, Bradley, and Allen

Shump, A. Bradley, Allen, Battier, Sefolosha, Mbah a Moute, Marion, Andre iguodala, Brewer, Deng, Wallace, Affalo, Rondo, Chris paul, Lebron, Raja Bell and a very few others are really good perimeter defenders.

I was talking about guards.

That list is good ... you need to throw Wade's name out, though.

Westbrook blew by Kobe with ease, it was the help defense that did a great job contesting everything... Plus a lot of shots he normally hits that just didn't go down.

One game a defensive first team does not make
In a perfect world yes, but in real life this is just the kind of thing that stands out for coaches who rely on reputation.
Maybe he doesnt make 1st team this year but Battier made 2nd Team (for the first time in his defensively dominant career) off the pub he got for that game where he locked down Kobe.

Kobe was in front of him throughout the night, hardly "blowing by him with ease". Don't watch much OKC but Westbrook through up a lot of contested shots. Compared to some of the decent looks Durant had, Westbrook had a much tougher time.

He would have got it based on reputation even without today's performance.

What does Tony Allen has to do to get first team all defense.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7 in steals (first in steals per minute)while locking up everybody he plays game in and game out.

I just don't know why voters don't give it to him.

Mike Brown was going to have Sessions guard Westbrook today until Kobe said: "No, I want him. I want to guard him."

Via Kevin Ding's twitter.

Lol, this guy is in his 16th season and also the primary scorer and playmaker for the Lakers.

Actually, Sessions is the primary playmaker for most of the game. But it's Kobe who's the playmaker down the stretch in the 4th and the clutch. If I'm Sessions, I take the responsibility of shouldering that burden upon himself and not burden Kobe that responsibility when Kobe should be just scoring for us down the stretch.

Leadership:

After the game, Kobe said “He cooked us da last time he was here, so I figured if he was going to cook us, I wanted him to cook me.”

Defend the fastest player(or one of the) in the NBA, lead your team and league in scoring, come up big at clutch, and be your teams primary playmaker?

In your 16th season when you already have 5 rings and so many awards?

With all the injuries you had?

Kobe the basketball legend.

Tony Allen, Avery Bradley, Iman Shumpert, Rajon Rondo, Thabo are all better defensive guards then Kobe at this point in his career but Kobe will get it cause of his name and reputation which is unfair but the way it is.

Two people can watch the same game and one person can actually sit through that game and say some *** like this and really mean it. Assuming you are talking about blew by without the help of a Perkins moving pick.

Wouldn't surprise me if he did. TA is very underrated and doesn't have the big market backing Shump has. I'd take TA any day though.

Pippen was miles better at the defensive end than Kobe.

Not after he'd been in the league for 10+ years he wasn't. Kobe would kill Pippen whenever he tried to defend him. Made him retire.
