I don't know if I want him back he a great year when he won the 6th man award but in the playoffs he was almost as bad as gasol, and he'll be 2 years older than he was back then,we should focus on getting younger.
If he wants to come back ill take him for the vet minimum.

If the Lakers sign him this off-season I hope its nothing more than the vet minimum. I would like him back but his lack of professionalism shown towards the Dallas Mavericks is absolutely disgusting. Lamar is a fantastic player when motivated but it is a joke that he will not give his all for a team that is paying him 9 mil a year to play the game he loves. Play out your contract and move on like a professional.

It's a shirt (under a jacket)
I'm sure he didn't have time to collect a bunch of casual Dallas gear.
He played for L.A. for 6-7 years. It's not like he wore his ring(s)

snicker...
pretty funny though.
C'mon. A fitting exit to a bad experiment. He handled it about as bad as a professional could. I'm a Laker fan (obviously) but LO handled it bad from the near-trade all the way to wasting the Mavs time and being emotionally awol for a team of pros defending their championship. Feelings for Mark Cuban feelings aside, it was bogus. They deserved a committed pro who was being paid 8.9 mil, period. Bummer for all involved. Especially Dallas and his teammates. Sorry Lamar. Bogus.

people do remember that Lamar demanded a trade out of LA, right?

I'm thinking that Lamar's agent or publicist instructed him to wear the Laker gear at Dallas airport in front of the media (probably sent the media there also), to bolster the "Lamar misses the Lakers and is emotionally stressed and that's why he sucks balls" storyline.

They traded away a first in the Sessions deal and simultaneously traded away a first in the Derek Fisher to Houston deal. Forgive me for not knowing off the top of my head which one went where. The point is, they don't have the ****ing draft pick anymore. Seeing that if they wouldn't of acquired Sessions they wouldn't of made the move to trade Fisher, it was pretty much one big deal.

I do get where you're coming from, but I feel that this storyline about Lamar and his personal struggles is really played out.

Fact: he demanded a trade and got it.

Fact: he was plugged into a major role on a championship team, given major minutes, and went out there and tried AS HARD AS HE COULD to play well and produce. And he totally failed.

The only REAL reason for this, imo, is that on the Lakers he was totally covered by Kobe. He benefited vastly from being Kobe's wingman or whatever... without Kobe, in a regular NBA rotation, without the best player in the league standing next to him, and with regular demands and expectations, Odom was totally exposed as being gigantically overrated.

Sorry, that's what I see.

The flipside of this is that Kobe is actually still UNDERRATED if that is even possible. This Lamar situation just proves it in yet another way.

Operation Kill Dallas From Within Is Complete - Operation Kill OKC From Within Is In Progress

Lamar and Derek we will welcome you back with open arms and then you can retire as Lakers.

Stern and he league screwed LA so the Lakers screwed them back all thanks to the CBA. They got their point guard upgrade. Derek got his buyout by turning down is player option for next year which means he can sign back with LA this summer. Lamar will get his mandated buyout of 2mil when Dallas doesn't pick up his team option next season and thus will be eligible to return as his contractual obligation will have been fulfilled. The Lakers get a backup for Kobe and sixth man on the cheap by cap numbers, while in actuality Fish and Lamar get well compensated thanks to other teams. You got to admit that would be some funny ****

This is why people think Laker fans are stupid. Because of you.

Lmao Mavs fans are salty because he clearly didnt want to be there by any means. If he isnt a Laker after this season, it will say a lot about the Mavs IMO.

He can't sign with the Lakers!!!

1) Mavs can trade him, he is under contract for next year

2) Mavs can buy him out, and he can't sign with Lakers

People keep saying he will be a Lakers next season

you're are wrong that only applies to this year for example fisher couldnt resign with the lakers when released by the rockets this year but he can next year

The funniest thing is the Lakers could get a lottery pick out of all this LOLOLOL

HOW???

a) The Mavericks pick was lottery protected
b) the Lakers traded away that pick just before the deadline

An utterly weak and pathetic man. Cuban did have the right to question him because this issue has been going on for months and nothing was said to Odom until now. If I'm putting forth no effort at work, my boss who is the one writing my checks, has every right to get after me. I loathe Cuban, but he's writing the checks and should question piss poor effort if it has been detrimental all season long.
Sad that a 32 year old man has no pride in his work, spine, or heart.

He can't sign with the Lakers until he plays with another team first

 why do you want to create new rules???

For all the misinformed: Lamar CAN sign with the Lakers, but not until one year from the date that they traded him (Ilgauskas rule). So the earliest the Lakers can pick him up is December, a month and a half into next season.

This.

This is why people think Laker fans are stupid. Because of you.

No, what I wrote is exactly right. I have no idea why everybody is bending over backwards to give him excuses, and avoid the obvious conclusion that his stats were inflated because he was Kobe's caddy.

Look... he was playing lots of minutes in Dallas and was given full access and a prime spot on the team. He was given more looks, more leeway, more touches, more isolation plays and just more of the ball in general than he was given in LA.

Right?

That is so obvious. In LA, he was a bench player, and even then he was more like the 3 1/2th option or something. He was mostly allowed to just slide around and pick up loose offensive rebounds and make opportunistic plays, and score easy hoops from the triangle or off of broken plays and passes from Kobe or Pau.

In Dallas he was plugged in as a major frontline player, and expected to just start producing straight out. He TRIED. I don't see how anybody can deny that.

this is so funny to me.

I must've seen Lamar shoot 400 3's this season, and the more he tried to step up his game, move without the ball better, handle the ball, rebound, pass, assist, drive to the hoop, the more he tried to do all the things he is supposedly good at, the less impressive he was. Actually, it was pretty obvious to any Laker fan that's watched the Lakers extensively in the past few years what was happening immediately after that first season opener against Dallas when Odom made his Mavericks debut.

Up till then, we weren't totally sure, but then the game played along and oh yeah, see, I knew that guy was slow, always out of the flow and can't shoot. I knew it. We've all seen it on the Lakers, just never saw it without Kobe there to boost him up all the time.

sorry to be so harsh, I don't want to be like a Stephen A-hole or something, I just don't get why people refuse to see this. Is it the Khloe show? Is TV really that powerful?

If I am Dallas, I ask the league to rescind the deal.

This is not possible. The deal is done, Lamar has played for the Mavs and the Lakers have since made other deals using the assets acquired from the Mavs via said deal. Stern may be all-powerful, but even he can't time travel or click a universal "undo" modifier. (Aside: Thank you, Stern, for negating the Chris Paul deal. Ultimately, the Lakers made out like bandits anyway, despite your meddling. The true mark of a "genius".)

If anyone is to blame, it's Cuban. Hubris is a mother*****. Did he not research LO's character? Did he seriously think that the Mavs were going to mystically unlock the great conundrum that LO presents in a few weeks when it took the Lakers several SEASONS to get LO to play consistently at an Allstar level, even with multi-title winning head coach like Phil Jackson and a top 10 all-time player like Kobe urging LO on? Are you kidding me?!

Come on, Cubes, don't feel so butt-hurt. You brought this on yourself. You can't tell a guy that you're in his corner and then yell and scream at him when he doesn't meld with your team right away. "Stop playing games!!!" Some players just aren't the "plug and play" variety. With those individuals, open-ended patience must be king. They'll eventually figure it out and be grateful to you for having faith in them.

But no, Cuban wanted an immediate return on his investment. Between his ego and the Mavs overall not performing like a defending champion should, LO was just an easy target for Cubes' frustrations. Way to go, Mark.

hey Dallas fans, umad? :laugh2:
id say thanks for the pick if LAL didn't waste it.

nobody won in that trade. lose-lose.

the lakers still have the 8.9 million dollar TPE that Odom created. They have until December to use it. It could be something they use for a FA in a sign and trade.

According to the link it's a championship shirt from his own clothing line? I don't even see a Lakers logo on it. This doesn't seem like a big deal.

Not entirely related, but I remember watching a couple different shows about NBA players' everyday lives and the players talked about how they would wear gear, shorts is what I specifically remember, from their old teams while working out and stuff. Not in public, so not the same thing.

Too Funny! The guy tells Lakers to trade him after he was put in a trade request for Chris Paul and now he'll come back asking the Lakers to take him back lol...

If I'm the Lakers, I take him back on a min deal. Lakers have all the leverage now.

Man, I would like to see Cuban's face now!

Not really. We gave up a late first round pick that you used to get Jordan freakin Hill, so it's not like the Lakers got any better either.

Seeing that the Mavs gave away last years first rounder and have no interest in adding any more money to the cap this offseason so that they can go after Deron Williams, Eric Gordon, etc... having that draft pick means very little to the Mavs.

It sucks that he didn't put any effort in but for what we paid for him, it cost the Mavs very very little other than some headache.

It doesn't make sense though. Odom was much more valuable to the Lakers with the way he was playing than a very late first rounder in a deal with a huge conference rival in Dallas. The situation seemed like Odom demanded the trade because he was upset and the Lakers FO made something happen quickly so they wouldn't have to deal with a disgruntled player.

By the way, Odom looks pathetic for rocking Lakers gear after leaving the Mavs. They willingly traded him not once but twice, and he's still being a child about it. You would think that the trade to Dallas would motivate Odom to get revenge on his former team in the postseason but that's out of the question now.

the trade wasnt for Jordan Hill, it was to relieve the team of Fisher's contract to give the team more flexibility to spend in the future while still keeping the $8.9 million TPE which will be valuable in free agency, instead of being stuck with the mini mid level ($3mil/year)

what about mark cubans unprofessionalism.. buddy walks in the locker room saying are you in or out after he just played 4 mins in the first half ? any one would have responded in a negative fashion.

dude he writes the checks. he is in the locker room with the team every game. every last one of them. it's about time somebody got in LO face and told him Da Truth. Are you in or out? MC found out that LO checked out permanently. So MC handed him a coach ticket to LALA land and said best of luck.
