Matt Moore, LHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Moore experienced a meteoric rise through the Rays farm system before bursting onto the Major League scene in September, culminating with the Rays' only postseason win. The 22-year-old is ranked as MLB.com's top prospect.

Rick Porcello, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
The Tigers are hoping for great things out of Porcello, whose bump in velocity and improvement in swings and misses in Spring Training rewarded him for an early-offseason workout program. He'll be starting his fourth Major League season at just 23.

Kevin Correia, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Who better to pitch the Pirates' first away game than Correia, whose road getaway in '11 (5-0, 1.56 ERA) was compelling enough to land him on the All-Star team. It was all downhill from there, but now he gets to try to regain the fans' confidence.

Clayton Kershaw, LHP
0-0, 0.00 ERA
Kershaw gets a do-over of his Opening Day start. After lasting only three innings in San Diego on Thursday before leaving with the flu, he takes the ball in the home opener and the 50th anniversary of Dodger Stadium's debut.

Philip Humber, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
The third pick in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft (by the Mets) tries to follow up last year's breakthrough, when he posted a 3.75 ERA with 26 starts in 28 appearances. Humber was 8-5 with a 3.10 ERA in the first half of 2011.

Jeanmar Gomez, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
With an outstanding spring showing, Gomez earned the fifth spot on the Tribe's starting staff. The right-hander has had stints with Cleveland over the past two years, but is on an Opening Day roster for the first time.

Freddy Garcia, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Garcia clinched a spot in the rotation when Michael Pineda was placed on the DL with a shoulder injury, but a strong spring had the team debating carrying Garcia anyway. The soft-tosser was 2-0 with a 4.35 ERA in four starts vs. the O's last year.

Wei-Yin Chen, LHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
The 26-year-old southpaw from Taiwan will be making his Major League debut against the division-rival Yankees. Chen was 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA in five starts this spring.

Daniel Bard, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
After three years of dominant bullpen performances, Bard moves into his new role as a starter. He hasn't worked in that role regularly since 2007 in the Minors. Bard has pitched 197 innings in his career, hopes to match that total this season.

Kyle Drabek, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Drabek was a late addition to the rotation after a foot injury to Dustin McGowan and the struggles of Brett Cecil. Drabek enters 2012 looking to rebound from a subpar rookie campaign that saw him go 4-5 with a 6.06 ERA in 18 games.

Kyle Lohse, RHP
1-0, 1.23 ERA
Lohse took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his Opening Day start before settling for a two-hit, one-run performance in 7 1/3 innings. He should be able to extend himself out to a pitch count of 100 after hitting 90 on Wednesday.

Mike Leake, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Leake had a 5.14 ERA during the spring but looked better in many games than the results showed. Leake is headed into his third big league season and is aiming to reach 200 innings for the first time.

Ross Detwiler, LHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Detwiler is now the fifth starter in the rotation. He will probably get three or four starts before returning to the bullpen as a long reliever. Chien-Ming Wang is expected to be back with the Nationals in late April or early May.

Dillon Gee, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Using Pilates to improve his conditioning over the winter, Gee parlayed his improved shape into a strong spring. In four starts against the Nats last season, Gee finished 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA. He was also 7-3 with a 3.17 ERA in 15 games at Citi Field.

Tommy Hanson, RHP
0-1, 1.80 ERA
Hanson exited his Opening Day start feeling good about his shoulder in an effort marred only by a run surrendered in the sixth inning. He is 3-0 with a 0.97 ERA in five career starts against the Astros.

Kyle Weiland, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Acquired by the Astros in December in a trade with the Red Sox, Weiland won a spot in the rotation with a good spring. He pitched in some big games for Boston last year, going 0-3 with a 7.66 ERA in seven games (five starts).

Chris Narveson, LHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Narveson is a late bloomer who has established himself with 28 Brewers starts in each of the past two seasons. He drew a good matchup; Narveson is 6-1 with a 3.55 ERA in 13 career appearances against the Cubs, six starts.

Paul Maholm, LHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Maholm was slowed this spring by the flu, which is why he was dropped into the No. 5 spot. But his goal is to pitch 200 innings, which few fifth starters can do. He does like pitching at Wrigley Field, where he has a career 6-2 record.

Blake Beavan, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
The former Rangers first-round Draft pick was 1-1 with a 1.84 ERA against his former team last year, but this will be his first start in Arlington. The 23-year-old went 1-1 with a 3.48 ERA this spring to earn a rotation spot.

Neftali Feliz, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Feliz makes his first Major League start after two successful years as the Rangers closer. He has a 2.55 career ERA, the lowest in team history among pitchers with at least 150 career innings. His career ERA at the Ballpark in Arlington is 3.50.

Trevor Cahill, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Cahill came over from Oakland in an offseason deal that involved highly regarded pitching prospect Jarrod Parker. Last season for the A's, Cahill was 12-14 with a 4.16 ERA. This will be his first career appearance against the Padres.

Edinson Volquez, RHP
0-1, 3.60 ERA
Volquez cruised through the first three innings on Opening Day against the Dodgers, striking out five. His command went awry in the fourth as he walked four, two with the bases loaded, as L.A. undermined what was shaping up to be a strong start.

Danny Duffy, LHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Blessed with a hot fastball and extraordinary stuff, Duffy is still searching for consistency in the Majors. He made 20 starts last year after coming up from Omaha and finished 4-8 with a lot of strikeouts -- and walks.

Graham Godfrey, RHP
0-0, -.-- ERA
Godfrey, who pitched five shutout innings against the Giants in his final exhibition start, was named the No. 4 starter two days later and is now set for his season debut. He went 1-2 with a 3.96 ERA in five games (four starts) for the A's last year.

Why bring in McGee to face Miggy?

Yep (in hindsight) Maddon made some questionable moves.
But the pitch selection by McGee was really bad. 7 or 8 straight fastballs. Eventually Cabrera would catch up to it.

Is David Freese for real?

So many people had him as a top 100 player (MLBN had him 67th) and I have consistently stated that everyone is just over-rating him because of his playoff success.

But after 6 games, he hasn't slowed down. I'm sure he is still just a .280/.350/.450 hitter, but he isn't hitting like that right now, he has been a lot better.

Again, I'm still skeptical, and it's obviously very early, but it's looking awesome.

RTL
04-10-2012, 09:05 PM
Freese has been good (with the bat) when healthy but that's been his problem, staying on the field. His bat has always been solid especially with RISP
