Hey guys I'm new to watching basketball so forgive me if this is a stupid question but,

why are the 76ers the 4th seed when Indiana and Atlanta both have better win percentages?

28-22 .560 Philadelphia
29-20 .592 Indiana
30-22 .577 Atlanta

just curious.

Sixers are leading the division so they get the 4th seed but not HCA

Division winners (Philly right now) are entitled to a top 4 seed.

1. Chicago (Central)
2. Miami (Southeast)
3. Orlando (Southeast)
4. Philly (Atlantic)

It used to be division winners got the top three seeds, so Philly actually would be a 3 seed right now...but they changed that just a few years ago.

as a complete aside, I'm actually really excited to see how philly/indy fare in this post season. I'd like to see the 'no star' teams give the big boys a good little scare or even send a couple home

They need to go back to how it was in 2004 and before and just have 2 divisions. I see no reason to have 3 divisions just so one team could be seeded higher and not even have HCA in round 1.

For instance in 2006 the Nuggets were the #3 seed because they won there division but the Clippers the #6 seed, and yet the Clippers had the better record and the HCA in round 1.
