At least it's not herniated. Probably something that's been building up...as you can have bulging discs without pain, but after a while and if it isn't getting treated/rest, it can start to cause pain. I've had a bunch of disc problems, and did a lot of PT for them...kinda a weird and variable injury from what I've gathered. So long as it's not herniated and there isn't nerve damage, I doubt he'll be out too long.

That pretty much kills the season. Even if they make the playoffs they can't hope to make it out of the 1st round without the #2 scoring option.

I seriously don't mean this as baiting at all Knicks fans, but this is exactly why early in the preseason I made the argument that they don't have the depth in this crazy jam packed season to get homecourt advantage, and I labeled them as a 7th seed. It sucks, for sure. But the teams that are surviving are either blessed with no major injuries, or deep as hell. IF, and thats IF, Amare can get back for the playoffs, and rotations shorten, and you guys can sneak in, the Knicks will be a tougher out.

I hate to say I was right, but I told you, this season will be nuts, and depth is a HUGE factor. If you don't have it, goodnight (see my Wolves).

That is beside the point. Injuries were going to happen. Period. You don't have depth, not compared to Denver, Philly, Chicago, and a bunch of other teams that have also dealt with injuries but are still in the thick of things or dominating.

Honestly, I alluded to this and got completey crapped on by you guys. Imagine if Lin hadn't come out of nowhere.

Better days are ahead for the Knicks, but this season was a test of roster strength man 1-10. The teams with less depth that could not absorb an injury to a couple of starters were doomed, unless the health god blessed their team. My Wolves are a perfect example. Had Rubio not gone down, and Pek's ankles held up, we would be sitting pretty with a 6-7 seed right now. Oh well.

This will bode extremely well for Carmelo, he should get his offensive flow back. Don't want to screw with Amar'es body and bring him back too early, we have way too much invested in him. We need JR and Baron to step up on a nightly basis as Melo will face doubles consistently.

We'll be okay as long as Lin and Melo are healthy. The Knicks are still statistically better this season without Amare.

As long as where healthy going into the playoffs it shouldn't matter.
If anything if gives guys like Jorts and perhaps Jerome Jordan to make an impact.
It will also allow Anthony to get back into a rhythm as he'd be taking more shots a game.

All of Amare's injuries are unrelated to eachother.

Prior to his contract the issue was microsurgery on his knees (his knees are still fine as far as we know).

His injury in the playoffs in 2011 was due to a pulled muscle in his back.

His current injury is due to a bulging cartilage disc in his spine.

From what I understand there's only 2 ways it gets fixed. PT and anti-inflammatories (2-6+ weeks), or surgery (season ending).

If the Knicks are lucky, he'll be back in time for the playoffs. If not, he's out until next season.

As for amnesty/trading, the Knicks have no amnesties to use (was used on Chauncey Billups to get Tyson Chandler), and he's not really tradable as not only is he currently injured and still recovering from a previous injury, but his contract is uninsured and considered uninsurable due to the microsurgery he had done on his knees.

3 years left after this season at $20m per season, so he's pretty much going to remain a Knick regardless.

If Amare is out this season, it doesn't mean that the Knicks can't get out of the first round (depending on their eventual seeding). Obviously it will be much harder and reduce the chances of a deep playoff run significantly.

Yeah amare's health has been a big problem for you guys. I remember hearing steve kerr talking on the radio about how they were hesitent to give amare the max because of his health concerns. Obviously he was talking about the knee at the time, but its unfortunate for knicks fans to have their highest payed player out again. This season has really stacked up the injuries.
