MEMPHIS, March 26, 2012 – The Memphis Grizzlies assigned guard Josh Selby to the Reno Bighorns, the team’s NBA Development League affiliate, Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today.

Selby (6-2, 183) has averaged 2.5 points and 1.2 assists on .377 shooting in 8.8 minutes in 23 games during his rookie season with the Grizzlies. The 20-year-old was selected by Memphis in the second round (49th overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft.

He was previously assigned to the Bighorns earlier this season on February 13, where he saw action in four games with the Bighorns, including one start. In this stint, Selby averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.25 steals in 31.0 minutes. He shot .483 from the field, .500 from three-point territory and .714 from the free throw line.

The Baltimore native posted 7.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 26 appearances last year as a freshman at Kansas.

The Grizzlies return home Tuesday night after completing a four-game road trip to face the Minnesota Timberwolves at 7 p.m. at FedExForum.

I have no problem with this whatsoever. Selby has fallen out of the rotation in favor of Pargs and Arenas, no shame in that. He will get plenty of minutes and experience that he can later bring back to the grizz.

Go make the best of this opportunity and use it as a stepping stone Josh!

Really thought he should've stayed at Kansas for another year or two. He didn't play a whole lot in his Freshman year and could've really used the extra time to learn and polish his game. Lot of talent, maybe the D-League can help.

Hope so cause he could be a good backup.

Selby was recalled back after Conley got injured. Saw that he had a 32 pt, 10 reb, 10 ast game in the d-league! Chances are he will go back to the D-league when conley comes back but with those type of numbers we might want him in over Pargo!
