Benches not in this conversation.

Post up your best CURRENT starting 5 vote and post why.

My answer:

Lakers
Sessions
Kobe
World Peace
Gasol
Bynum

Why? With the addition of Sessions, the lakers finally have a pg with speed that can penetrate and pass. He's no cp3/rose/williams, he's a 2nd tier pg added to a team of pedigree champions that have been winning rings all along with an ancient and slow derek fisher at pg. Something the lakers have been missing for years and years, this trade was probably the biggest steal of the trade deadline considering what they gave up. Kobe can now play his natural sg position without having to play the pg as well. Gasol and Bynum make the lakers the #1 rebounding team in the league. This team can defend, especially in the paint. This team can score now with Sessions making it much easier for all.

4 of the 5 starters have rings, championship experience, know how to win when it comes down to the end. When metta brings his A-game (locks down the other teams best offensive threats + drains all his 3's) theres no other starting 5 i'd take.

If Harden started, it'd be OKC far and away. But he's not, so I'll take Miami or Chicago.

Knicks deserve some recognition in this thread as well, talent-wise.

hands down the chicago bulls .our starting five of joakim noah, carlos boozer, luol deng, and reining mvp derrick rose .are by far the best five .if youok at what we had to go through as far as injuries and road record we have the best record in the league havent lost two straight games in over a year .cant top that

Doesn't Sessions play off the bench for the Lakers right now?

It's tough for me to say the Lakers, because even though they do have 3 great players they also have one of the worst starting players in the league as well. Miami has 2 spots that aren't great, but solid enough. I'd probably go with OKC. Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, Perkins, Thabo is pretty darn good. If they started Harden it would be them hands down.

I do like the lakers and World Peace has being playing better, thunder are also a very good starting lineup. The bulls have a very good defending team i would start Taj though i like his game alot. The knicks have very good talent but J.R or Shumpert should be starting. The heat of course are very good but im just not sold on Anthony as the starting center.

Rudy Gay

Marc Gasol

lol, if the games were played ONLy by starting 5s, they wouldnt have the best reacord.

BENCH COUNTS.

And bulls have probably the best DEPTH among contenders.

Id take Lakers or Knicks starting 5s over bulls, but bulls bench simply destroys anything l.a or n.y have.

Are we asking for best starting 5 as a cohesive unit or as individuals? In my opinion Talent wise, I would say Knicks, yet I still question there pg situation. As a cohesive unit who can actually win, I would say bulls (if ever healthy), Thunder, or Spurs. Miami is hurt by Anthony, who takes them out of the conversation. Lakers are hurt by Metta World Joke. Take them down like 6 notches.

Side convo, what a starting lineup the Blazers could of had. Felton, Roy, G.wallace, Lamarcus, and Oden. Sad.

Miami has the best starting lineup because they have 2 guys who are top 5 (if not higher) plus Bosh who's probably top 15-20. I would say the Thunder are probably 2nd with Durant, Westbrook, and Co.

but Anthony is probably ranked last among starting centers, and Chalmers is mediocre at best if compared to the rest of the starting pg's in the league

Sure. I wasn't going by that though. When I think of the best starting 5, I think of the most complete. Which is why the Bulls, to me, also can be argued to have the best starting 5. You don't see many flashy names but each of them contribute to their position perfectly and it makes their starting lineup complete. The same with the Lakers. World Peace isn't even close to the top 5 in forwards but then again, they don't expect him to be.

Laker 100 percent, they are the only team on here that has 2 7 footers in the line up, A top 5 player a defense stopper, with a really good pg. I get that people want Barnes to start, but there is too much scoring in the first unit for the Lakers, Ron is our stopper and bully, he makes our starting lineup complete, and with Sessions moving into the starting lineup, this will easily be the best starting 5, only problem is, once the starters come out, Barnes is the only thing left.

Noah is not greater than Cousins, although Noah probably fits better as a C on the Bulls roster. Now IF you replace Boozer with Cousins I'd practically bet my life that we'd win it all this year. All Noah has on Cousins is passing and perimeter defense, EVERYWHERE else Cousins is better if not as good.

The Lakers are definitely in the mix. Artest is the weak link, and his defense still ranges from good to awesome on any given night.

Also, the Bulls' Rose/Hamilton/Deng/Boozer/Noah.

If the Thunder started Harden, I might give them the nod. But they don't.

I think there are two ways to look at this: What team has the Best starting 5 individual talent wise and what team has the best starting 5 as a whole.

Individual Talent Wise there is no question that the top 3 are:

Heat
Lakers
OKC

But best starting 5 doesn't necessarily mean biggest names. If we are going to judge the best starting 5 we need to look at teams that play together well, run plays and pick up defensive assignments well. They need to have good team chemistry. Teams like this include:

Bulls
Sixers
Denver
Spurs

Heat and its not close. The Bulls are great because there starting 5 is very good as well as there bench being one of the best in the league (maybe the best). OKC has a great starting line too but not as good as the Heat. And with Harden coming off the bench he provides a lot of the spark for that team, whereas the Heat basically rely solely on their starting 5.

I think everyone else is a tier below as far as starting 5 and overall team.

Yeah, look at records. That's clearly what the thread topic is. It's not like bench and team chemistry have anything to do with records...

The lakers just got sessions, why would their record without him be relevant?

And yeah, the heat have the best starting 5, not gonna debate that. I don't think the lakers are that far behind though.
