Foster has been in the league for thirteen years, and played each season with the Pacers. It doesnt happen often, but here is a classy guy who managed to play his entire career in one jersey. I know he was never an all-star player, but he always came across as a hard worker and an unselfish player.

Thoughts On Foster's retirement?

not sure if those who played against him would call him classy, but he was a great role player and a gritty defender and rebounder.

Glad to see him gone, always hated that guy.

Gotta respect that he played his whole career with the Pacers, not many guys have done that.

Extremely hard worker that was all about doing what he had to do to help his team win. Sucks that he had to retire midseason like this, never wanna see some one go out on an injury.

Funny thing is, off the court he really isn't a class act. In fact, he's a complete prick.

No reason to be sad.

This guy got into the NBA strictly because he was tall.

Didn't have foot speed so he hacked his way on defense.

Had really only one skill (rebounding).

Wasn't really an impact in the league. And got paid millions for 13 years for being so-so guy in a franchise that realistically only had 1-2 good seasons with him as a major contributor.

Jeff was one of the league's best post defenders for years. Limited offensively? Absolutely. But damn, could that guy play defense.

Wait till BJ Mullens and Bismack form a 1-2 Center combo in Charlotte in a few years that is responsible for Global Warming, WW3, and Jersey Shore getting a 10th season.

Wow. I was thinking of starting a discussion about players that spent their whole time with one team, excluding TD, Dirk, Kobe and Pierce. I was gonna say people forget about Jeff Foster...and now he retires. Trippy.

...and one more hard-nosed defender/rebounder hits the dust. Players like Foster are becoming the symbol of an NBA that is unfortunately on its way out.

I respect him in the fact that he did what he had to do to earn minutes and stay in the NBA as long as he did. With that said, he basically became a good rebounder and hard fouler/enforcer later in his career. Like i said, i respect that he was willing to take on that role in order to lengthen his career and help his team, but feel he was part of too many dirty plays to consider classy.

I was visiting family in Indiana and we were at the Fishers Freedom Festival which is some festival and parade thing outside of Indianapolis. I left early but apparently Jeff Foster was there so my Aunt ran up to him and said "Are you like a famous basketball player or something?" and he was like "Yeah" and she said "My nephew loves basketball, can I get an autograph for him?". So he pulls out a picture of himself, signs it, and gives it to her. This was like two years ago when I was 18 when this happened. It was still really cool of her to do that though. It's funny to think back about. But yeah, that's my history with Jeff Foster.

yeah. its funny how we judge athletes. the ones who look out for their families financially are greedy. the flagrant foul specialists are "classy' because they stayed with a fans favorite franchise.

A rare combination of focus (http://blogimages.thescore.com/tbj/files/2011/10/jeff-foster-thinking.jpg), determination (http://www.nypost.com/rw/nypost/2011/12/05/sports/web_photos/jeff--300x300.jpg), and beauty (http://blogimages.thescore.com/tbj/files/2011/01/jeff-foster-smug.jpg).
