Sources: Ronny Turiaf, Miami Heat close to terms

By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo!

Free agent Ronny Turiaf is finalizing an agreement with the Miami Heat, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday.

Turiaf, a 6-foot-10 forward, gives the Heat a strong rebounding and defensive presence as they fortify themselves for a title run. For the Heat, Turiaf gives them another tough, experienced veteran to defend the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The deal will be announced later Wednesday, league sources said.

Turiaf averaged four points and three rebounds in 64 games for the New York Knicks a season ago.

Great energy guy coming off the bench. Loved him when he was with the knicks. :sigh: How dare he join the dark side

nice job Miami, loved this guy with the Knicks, he was just injured a lot.
He should do well in limited minutes, not to mention he may be the best locker room guy in the league.

he also had open heart surgery his rookie (?) year and came back to be a pro athlete. these are the reasons i enjoy ronny turiaf. he might make a play or two on defense before its all said and done.

I hate when writers call a player a forward. Turiaf plays power forward and center. Someone like Josh Smith is a forward.

Now that I got that off my chest, good pickup by the Heat. Should improve their center position.

no surprise, he will help that center position, not difficult though..

It's a very good fit for him.

Dunno if he'll really see much time on the court, but it's a good fit. Strong possibility that he'll be the second center off the bench.

Good energy guy, emotional and goofy.
Good for short spurt energy boosting moments in the game when the team needs a spark.

Over-dramatic at times.

Hopefully for the Heat he'll play good and the team won't

Good pickup for the Heat. Even if he doesn't play hes worth it for his bench shenanigans and facial expressions. He has some glass knees and sits a lot because of that but when he plays hes a difference maker especially for a team that doesn't need much besides energy from the position. He also finishes suprisingly well around the basket.

Ronny Turiaf last season: 6.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per 36 mins. Joel Anthony? 6.5 rebs and 2.3 blocks per 36 mins. 19 minutes ago

Weird. Everything was predestined.

heat bench is ranked #20 in the league... damn good isn't exactly what i would call their bench... and beating the bobcats isn't really that hard these days... i don't think they would beat the hornets, but that's just me... it was a pickup, a body... he wasn't a game changer in LA, GS, or NY, and won't be one in Miami... i think it's just insurance...

If he can't do anything else, he can cheer on the bench. Miss him as a Laker. He will block shots, rebound, defend and occasionally hit a mid range shot, but it's rare. He plays with so much heart. He is better than Joel Anthony imo. Good pickup by the Heat.

Joel is great against some teams and useless vs others.

Just take philly for example. Joel gives philly all kinds of problems, but vs the magic, he's pretty useless.

On behalf of Knicks nation, why would you say this?

How is Turiaf soft? He was a great shot blocker and a great low post defender.

I respect him a lot and value the contributions he made to our knicks team last year. No need to bash him.

he is horrible. good guy and i hope we keep him on the roster to stay in shape and continue to earn a paycheck, because i think he needs it. but he is done. he is bad offensively and is worse then michael beasley defensively.

He can give solid effort in limited minutes if he's physically able.

The question isn't "is he injured?", the question is "how injured is he?" The dude is always ****ing injured and banged up.

If he's healthy, as crazy as this sounds, he might put Miami over the top as to having legitimate talent covered at all 5 positions. He's not a skilled defender, but he's definitely a hustle defender with a big body.

He's also a decent finisher under the hoop and gets to the line. He'll get limited use on offense, obviously, but he's a viable option for Lebron/Wade to pass to when double-teamed. Honestly, he should've shot the ball more in NY, too unselfish and we could've used his high% scoring. That isn't the case with Miami so it won't be a problem. Spoelstra will use him to his potential if he can stay on the court more than 5 minutes.

Love and miss Turiaf in a Lakers uni. I wander why the Lakers didnt go after him, I think he alone could have saved us from our three loses at home and our recent lost to Houston. We lost on a Rose floater at home against Pau. I could imagine Turiaf chasing that down and changing that shot. Against the Pacers and the Rockets and Utah we had double digit leads in the fourth under five minutes before they made a run. With Turiafs shot blocking, ability to make players second guess, and decent midrange jumper I think we keep those leads. Again why didnt managment go after him  Great signing by the Heat.

A little injury and foul prone, but a good signing nonetheless. Athletic enough to play with a team like Miami, and a solid defender. Not a great rebounder, but Miami does their rebounding on a positional basis anyway. He'll be a nice backup when healthy, and Miami did a good job improving on their primary weakness IMO.
