View Full Version : What team is the best fit for Derek Fisher?

Fresno

When he reaches a buyout with the Rockets he'll be able to join any team this season, except the Lakers.

His defense is terrible but in a backup role with his clutch shooting & experience he could be valuable to plenty of teams.

Should go back to LA and sign with the D-Fenders.

Out of the teams in the poll, the only team in which he would get any playing time with is Memphis.

I think you should have included Atlanta in your options....

How funny would it be if Bledsoe/Williams got injured and the Clippers pick up Fisher!!!

Clippers, they need veteran presence and a clutch shooter like Billups.

Retirement.

Maybe he signs on to OKC or another young team to give some vet leadership... but I doubt it. He seems like he wants to play still. Earlier this week before the trade I read that he wanted to come back next year play, and even play beyond next year.

As much as we have hated on him all year, the dude could prove to be very helpful to a young playoff team like OKC or even the Clippers. At least in the postseason he can hit some big shots, may even be able to save a game or two.

Haha that would be so weird to see him in Los Angeles playing for the OTHER team.

I agree with retirement. He's old and bad. If he wants to come back, I could believe any of the teams listed except Boston, and would add maybe San Antonio and Miami as teams that look like they could use him.
Really he should just get a job on the LAL bench and take over once they fire Mike Brown, or work for Phil in the unlikely event that he comes back.

Actually I think OKC is a great fit.

Wont get a lot of minutes, but he could get 15-20 MPG backing up Westbrook at PG and playing a few minutes at SG like he did in Utah. They only have a rookie combo guard in Reggie Jackson backing him up and Scott Brooks doesn't trust him enough to bring him in and rest Westbrook. Fisher at the very least has starting experience and can be trusted as a backup.

He will sign with the Spurs since TJ Ford retired with the injury

The last image of him should be in a Laker uniform

I think he should sign with the knicks. Who better to teach lin how to play. We could cut douglas and walker.

BradfordIsElite

He's been done for a while now, so do not depend on him for much of any production. He can't create plays anymore, his shot selection continues to get worse and he can't play a lick of man to man defense. The only thing he still provides is great on/off court leadership and clutch shooting. I'll give him that.
I see San Antonio, Memphis, Atlanta and Orlando as possible destinations that would make plenty sense.

He'll be better as a coach. As much as I love his clutch game and vet leadership, he can no longer play well for 30 mins.

Right now with Baron Davis's hammy incident, I'm going to say the Knicks need him for 10-14 a game. Bibby is garbage and Davis is made out of glass.

All he's good for now is veteran leadership. He would really bring the locker room together for Heat or the Clips. He should just retire and become part of the coaching staff with us though.

Guys like Kurt Thomas, Marcus Camby, Jerry Stackhouse etc. should all have retired long ago, but they still haven't. And you guys are saying that Fisher should retire. Out of all those guys, Fisher is the only old dog that brings championship experience to any team while those other 3 guys I mentioned have been ring chasers and pretty much irrelevant the last 5-6 yrs of their careers. Those 3 guys should have retired long ago, but are yet still in this league.

I would love to have camby as a backup to bynum. Hes leading the whole league in rebounds per 48. Just sayin.

Fisher is done being able to play at a high level. Hes been done for about a year now. He will forever be linked with Kobe as being part if every one of those 5 championships. Lakers need to do the right thing and the smart thing and bring Fish on board as part of the Lakers personel staff. Thats a guy you want to keep in your organization forever.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up on the Heat.. They wanted him before so you have to believe they'll make another run at him.. How they afford these guys is beyond me but yeah.. Damn watching the Lakers game on tape delay and god they suck.. lol..

I see him playing the best on the Heat, I think his skill set matches the best with their needs and they provide the best coverage for his glaring weaknesses.

Fisher has trouble guarding young athletic point guards: The Heat have a surplus of athleticism that can help.
Fisher is not a conventional that does the best with the ball in his hands: Heat have Wade and LeBron doing most of the ball handling and penetration.
Since Wade and LeBron are the primary ball handers and penetrators, the Heat need point guards that can make smart decisions and catch and shoot when the kick out because of double team: Fisher is perfect for that.
The Heat want a title and having experienced and mature personnel is helpful.

That being said, I don't know how he fits in with Cole and Chalmers already being there. On the other hand, I don't think you can really think he's going to get significant minutes with any team.

After hearing LBJ's statement, I actually agree and have now come up with a good reason to believe Fisher JUST might be capable of producing in this league still.
All you need to do is bring him in the last 3-5 minutes of every 4th quarter(including playoffs) and at least have him take the very last shot. This would be real good for not only Fisher, but for LBJ tooo.
