View Full Version : Bayless' potential

In 24 games as a starter in the last 2 seasons he is averaging...

17.4 ppg
6 apg
3.3 rpg
1 spg
45% FG
2.4 TO

In the 4 games he's started this past week since Calderon went down, he's averaging 20, 8 and 4 on 52 FG% and 47 3PT%

His PER is above league average at 16.5, as are his ORTG and WS/48, while his DRTG is below league average (the tools are there to be a good defender and Casey will help with that).

Considering he's just 23 years old, what do you guys project his career potential to be?

A slightly more athletic, better jameer nelson.

Whats Raptors record in games he has started?

There you got his "potential"

too short to play the Sg, not good enough creating for others and leading an offense for the PG.

See if you're saying that after 20 games. Once there's enough tape out there on him and scouts write up reports on his tendencies, he's going to go back to being a disappointment. I think he ends up a backup in a Jason Terry/Nate Robinson type role, at best.

I dont think he'll pan out to the player people thought he would be, but a decent reserve

It's not about being disappointed, it's about asking general NBA fans what they think of his potential.

Is he a solid starter, average starter, back-up, 6th man or All-Star calibre player?

Like you said, I also see the Jet type role.

He's not the distributor that you really want out of a starter, but he can definitely score. I can see him in a flex starter role.

I wanted him back in the 08 draft. I think he make a solid starter

best case scenario: sixth man in a championship calibre Raptors team

Mind telling us the Raptors' record with Calderon starting the last 2 seasons?

Man when we drafted I had such high hopes, he has all the tools to be an effective combo guard off the bench. Anything else is probably reaching.

he's right though.. if your going to judge players based on team record then calderon doesnt have much of a case.

whats the weakness in his game?

somtimes he forces his game, looks to score first rather then pass. But in the time that he has gotten good mins or started he has put up pretty solid numbers and has gotten better at looking for his team mates.

I LOVED him back when he was coming out and thought he could be an elite sixth man at worse. Definitely disappointed cause I thought he could have been the next Jason Terry.

Heediot
03-20-2012, 12:06 PM
A good change of pace back-up point guard. At best he's a starter on a high lottery team. The league is full of productive PG's.

Heediot
03-20-2012, 12:08 PM
On a more positive note, if his shot and decision making improve he could be better than what I said his ceiling was in the other post.

Jason Terry's shot is wet. He'll have to work on his shot a lot more.

Jason Terry's shot is wet. He'll have to work on his shot a lot more.

I never thought about the Terry comparison but it could be a good one. When Terry was his age Terry was shooting 43% from the floor, 39% from 3 and 84% from the line. Bayless is out-performing two of those stats right now. i like the Terry comparison it could be a good one. What confuses me is that I thought that Terry was a bigger guard than Bayless and the measurements I am seeing say otherwise.

Bayless is a future All Star in my opinion.. He has really worked on his outside shot which now makes him really hard to guard. Once he improves his distribution skills at the point look out!

Why do you always start raptors threads in the nba forum after a short stretch of games. What do you expect people to say, yes its very good stats, and he has played well recently, but the team record sucks so it doesnt say much on his impact. Even though christina bosh averaged 24 ppg he wasnt enough to even get the raptors to the playoffs.
