To keep it brief: Any of the top 6 outside of the Clippers can come out of the West, and the Bulls or Miami can come out of the East. Barring serious injuries, there's no realistic chance for anyone else.

West is deep though, that finals bid is a crap shoot.

West:

Chicago
Can: Best overall team, great coach/ defenders despite Boozer down the middle.
Can't: Derrick Rose goes ice cold again, Boozer gets owned in the paint again, lingering injuries to Deng/Rose

Miami
Can: They have 3 stars (2 superstars), as well as some other players who can assist them (Miller, Chalmers, Cole)
Can't: Depth inside can kill them. The three all-stars have to play as such to get their teams wins. If they get Kaman, there will be some big problems to everyone else lol.

Orlando
Can: Dwight Howard loves the team and plays motivated basketball
Can't: Dwight Howard hates the team. Also, they don't really have another semi-star outside of the paint.

Philly
Can: Team basketball takes over. Iggy locks down guys like Wade all the way to the finals
Can't: No big star that can take over games when the rest of the team is struggling.

Indiana:
Can: See above
Can't: see above.... the Pacers are basically the offensive version of the 76ers lol

Atlanta
Can: Smith plays out of mind, if Horford comes back, he meshes perfectly with their new system, Joe Johnson plays to the value of his contract.
Can't: Team chemistry fails them again.

Boston
Can: They get a time machine just before the playoffs and put Allen, Pierce and Garnett inside it. Might as well add Jermaine O'neal
Can't: Too Old. Little Depth.

Milwaukee
Can: The first signs of the apocalypse of 2012 occur when the 15 best of the 16 playoff teams dissappear of the face of the earth.
Can't: The teams remain on earth.

West:

OKC
Can: Dominating so far. Continues.
Can't Still kinda young. Memphis can match them blow for blow I think, and some teams might just have more experience and enough talent to take them down.

San Antonio:
Can: Duncan goes Prime in playoffs. Good depth.
Can't: Age catches up to them, like last year.

Lakers
Can: Kobe goes bonkers. Having a center finally prove his worth this season could wreak havoc come playoff time too.
Can't: After Bryant, Bynum, Sessions, Gaslol... Who else is there.

Clippers
Can: Basketball Reasons
Can't: Lacking closer (Billups). Team chemistry is off (Del Negro/Mo), Defensively they are a bit off, also Blake would be in his first playoff series and will probably face another guy who can kill/cancel out his performance on one end (E.g. Right now he would have to deal with Z-bo)

Grizz
Can: Awesome starting 5 with Conley-Allen-Gay-Randolph-Gasol and decent depth behind with Mayo et co. Randolph picks his game up again
Can't: For some reason, Gay-Randolph have problems winning games together (Chemistry).

Dallas
Can: Dirk goes crazy again.
Can't: Older, Slower, Chandler isn't the backbone of defense anymore

Houston
Can: Won't.
Can't: Teams are just plain better and have more experience as of right now.

Denver
Can: Won't. Good team depth though.
Can't: Same as above. Give them a few years and them (and Houston) might become contenders.

Wasn't so much age as it was a bad matchup. They're much younger than people realize. Teams with size like Memphis, Lakers, even Minnesota can be a real bad match up. Agree pretty much on everything else though. I'd also add for Lakers not utilizing their size

any team from the west can make the finals even if you are not considered as a championship threat. look at the 2011 mavs. even mavs fans are saying that the blazers would beat them in round 1.

West is pretty much a tossup. Cal827 has a good analysis.
