INDIANAPOLIS -- Greg Oden's agent says his client is committed to playing basketball again despite his latest injury.

The Portland Trail Blazers waived the former No. 1 overall pick Thursday after an injury-plagued five-year run. He recently underwent his third microfracture knee surgery, the second on his left knee.

Mike Conley Sr. says his client is recovering in his hometown of Indianapolis. Oden has been on crutches since the Feb. 20 procedure and is expected to remain on them for another five weeks.

Conley says Oden briefly contemplated ending his career but now is fully focused on rehab. Conley says Oden, who will be an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers Saturday, has expressed interest in playing for the hometown Pacers after he recovers.

Hibbert and Oden would be a deadly combo if they play to full potential

He needs to spend that money he is getting on the best doctors in the world not some local Portland doctor

I'd give him a chance for the right price. I don't think it would hurt anyone to give him a chance.. well, besides him if he got hurt again.

Good luck Greg,he's from Indiana so it makes sense. He should really consider the Suns though given their renowned training staff.

I hope he can make the comeback. I'm rooting for him.

I honestly think he's a top 10 center when healthy. 30 games with Oden is better than 0, I'd spend a couple million on him if I'm a team looking to win.

1 year contract with Suns. Get their medical staff to do w.e. they do to make old injury prone guys into healthy good players.

I honestly think if he went to Phoenix he'd be cured.

Their medical staff is amazing.

He isn't going to pass a physical until at least 2/13, meaning he won't play until the 2013-14 season if all goes well. So really any Oden news is whatever until all that happens.

Why does he have to pass a physical? There are teams that barely even spend over the floor, I think someone out there will waive a physical to take a flyer on him.

Detroit has the best Trainer/strength and conditioning coach in the NBA (Arnie Kander). All 4 professional sport's athletes seek out his advice after being injured.

Relax bro I'm sure if he could he'd want to play basketball too. It's unlucky that all these injuries occurred, and just very sad and unfortunate. This is what Greg loves to do, I'm sure although he's made millions of dollars for sitting, it's killing him that he can't play basketball.

I really feel for Oden and honestly I don't care if he doesn't reach his potential as a player (although his 2nd season would indicate differently), I just want the guy to play basketball.

Pacers trainers won the award for being the best at their job or something like that, they have a very good training staff. I think Miami will try and pick him up at some point. Not sure he will ever be a Pacer but I would love having him backup Roy.

He's been seeing Dr. Richard Steadman. He's developed many of the currently used knee surgery techniques, and is world renowned in the field since the 70s.

As Hawk said, this will take a while.

My recommendation for Oden would be to not rush it. Take your time, get geared up for the long term and 2013-2014. IF Miami is yet to win a championship by the start of 2013-2014, he should sign with them for one year. If healthy, his defensive presence, and presence on the glass will nearly lock up the title for Miami. He will get massive credit for pushing Miami over the top, and he will earn himself a longer deal contract that will allow him to retire for good later on. just my two cents.

It's been said, but he should just go to Phoenix as their medical staff seems to be miracle workers
