Eh idk imo no... I would say he is definitely up there in making the "right play" or whatever you wanna call it though late in the game... whether that be a big steal, take a charge, or make the right pass but if I NEEDED a basket I would take any of those guys before him

My top 5.
1. Kobe
2. Melo
3. Paul Pierce
4. Chris Paul
5. Dwyane Wade

Thoughts?

1. LeBron. He is the best player in the NBA and more importantly he hasn't committed to taking a shot as soon as he touches the ball. Your top 2 guys are shooting that regardless of how much time is left, how well there covered, etc. . .

2. Dirk he is the hardest player in the NBA to guard get the ball in his hands and you know that he will get the shot off.

3. Derrick Rose. Best player at breaking down a defense, he is incredibly hard to guard and is less likely to settle for a bad jumper than Kobe/Melo.

4. Chris Paul. Like LeBron he has not committed to taking the last shot, he will find the best available option for the team.

5. Steve Nash. One of the best shooters in the NBA but again unselfish and if the defense come to him he will whip the ball across court to the open man.

Keep in mind this isn't the last 3 seconds when you just need to catch and shoot. I have thirty seconds, an entire possesion actually more. . . This would be a better question if it was like 15 seconds.

.

Steve Nash would basically have to pass. He's looked pretty lackluster in the past shooting at the buzzers. I do understand where you're coming from, though.

I love Nash, but I don't think I'd have him in my top five, even though this isn't a "he must go for it' scenerio.

I'd probably go with something like;

1. Dirk Nowitzki
2. Kobe Bryant
3. LeBron James
4. Carmelo Anthony
5. Dwayne Wade/Kevin Durant

They're a threat to shoot, drive, or find the open man. Each have a history of being clutch in a way or two.

2. Kevin Durant
3. Steve Nash
4. Tim Duncan (he's even hit a few 3's at or near the buzzer, I think he is an underrated clutch guy)
5. Dwayne Wade

note - Kobe deserves to be on the list but I will never put him on a positive list, Melo may be great at hitting the last shot but with 30 seconds on the floor I don't trust him to not LET the other team score, or to grab a loose ball so I cannot put him on the list because clutch is much more then a buzzer beater

1. Larry Bird

Actually it does matter. The 30 seconds says who do trust to get you or set up the points as well as prevent the other team from getting it back.

Its about real clutch not about just a buzzer beater and I think you and several others aren't seeing that.

Even as a bulls fan I can say that he's not great at free throws when it's on the line. He'll make the right bball move whether to pass or shoot it himself. But if he gets fouled and goes to the line, I'd be nervous. No one can deny that one of roses biggest flaws is clutch free throws.

How many of these threads need to be created, this question comes up once a week. I could see 2 or maybe tops 3 times a year but it seems its every other day I see a new thread, whos the most clutch, who do you want to take the last shot, etc. This is actually the worst question, 30 seconds left I don't care who takes the shot, you are going to leave at least 5 seconds on the clock even if the shot is taken with one second left on the shot clock since ball travel takes time as well. If Kobe makes the shot then the other team gets a chance win it.
