About to go up on http://ESPN.com: Lakers have agreed to a trade for Cavs point guard Ramon Sessions for a future draft pick.

LOL HELLCROONER Ahahahhahahhh

Yeah I'm kind of ****ing disappointed at this lame ****, but there honestly weren't many deals around these days and we pathetically need a PG.

I've been a HUGE critic of this guy, but he's averaging over 5 assists in in a reserved role playing about half a game, although alot of that production could be from garbage time since he is on the cavs..
His 3pt shooting sucks ***, which is something we've needed, and his defense probably sucks as well, but... meh

We better get some REAL deals done in the offseason.

I don't know about championship level. However not having to rely on Fisher or Blake is a huge come up for a team that already has a championship core. Not to mention Bynum is playing like the best center in the league as of late(god that statement hurts to even type). And what did this cost them you ask? Luke Freaking Walton! Walton deserves a little love from Laker fans on the way out though. He was a stand up guy and solid player, even through the down years. Just couldn't get healthy and never really lived up to that contract.

Once upon a time, he was an excellent role player for them, especially considering where he was drafted. He even played pretty well for them as a rookie in the '04 Finals. The intangibles that young fans scoff at nowadays - basketball IQ, passing - was legit. He was also an underrated defender.

He was kind of a jack of all trades, without being really good at any. He could rebound pretty well for a SF. He could dribble. He could pass. Although not much of a shooter, he also knew how to exploit a mismatch.

These - and a much more favorable financial climate - are the reasons Luke got such a sweet contract. Unfortunately, the last couple of years, as he played less and less due to injury, that contract got pretty ugly. Let's face it, he got to be pretty useless.

I like Luke. I think he can be a really good coach someday. But his inclusion in the trade - specifically, the inclusion of his contract - made the deal better for the Lakers.

A first, Kopono, and Walton, for Sessions, and a Spaniard who I know nothing about (who might have experience with Pau?). I'd say a job well done.

What I question is the other deal. For the young Rockets center. Don't know anything about him, but I would have preferred it to have been Blake/picks/TE for Beasley or Felton. Maybe this young center will be very good.

all i know is that the Laker chose to save money today. the TE was not used. they absorbed Odoms TE. if it doesn't pay off...

should move the TE, Blake, and a first for beasley in the deal that send Luke R to Portland and Crawford to Minny...

Sessions/Blake//Morris
Kobe/Goudelock
MWP/Barnes/Ebanks
Gasol/McRoberts/Murphy
Bynum/Hill

The Lakers bench doesn't look quite as bad now with Hill, who can play the 4 and the 5 as well as Gasol so they have some depth there considering they have McRoberts and Murphy as well. Ron/Metta has stepped up recently and Barnes has always been solid off the bench. Between Blake and Goudelock the backcourt has some depth too. The addition of Sessions is huge though, major improvement over Fisher.

I put this post in the Lakers forum but I will repost it here:

Okay Sessions' career stats as a starter (89 games- a full season)

14.8 PTS
7.4 AST
4.0 TRB
44.4% FG
27.0% 3PFG
79.7% FT
33.4 MPG

Oh and his averages when he plays 30-39 MPG (64 games- 45 as a starter)

16.7 PTS
6.8 AST
4.3 TRB
47% FG
81% FT
28% 3PFG

These numbers are found here:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/...sira01/splits/

Also has a PER of 16.4 (19 last year!)

Basically, Sessions is one of those diamonds in the rough, a hidden gem that has played behind PGs that teams were trying to make their franchise guard (Again he played behind Mo Williams and I believe Jennings in Milwalkee, Johnny Flynn, the one year he showed promise, and then Baron Davis and Kyrie Irving).

Sessions will really upgrade this Lakers squad IMO. Just enough for them to be championship contenders.

Hawkeye15
03-15-2012, 06:25 PM
Sessions is better with the ball in his hands running PnR, and wasn't effective without the ball when he played in offenses that asked him to bring it upcourt, and space the floor, and hit open jumpers when it came back around. If the Lakers don't adjust their offense to have it flow through Sessions a decent amount of the time, he will not be very effective.

JayW_1023
03-15-2012, 06:30 PM
Great trade. Fishers value as a locker room presence will be missed, but thank christ he can fish flop somewhere else.

Ramon doesn't need to be borderline all-star like some of these posts here imply, just needs to play solid ball: penetrate, make the extra pass and make his open shots off double teams Kobe, Pau and Drew attract.

I like Sessions, he is starter quality, but playing for the Lakers will cause him to be horribly overrated no matter what. In Cleveland, no one gave a damn: now his game will finally be scrutinized.

If we get rid of Murphy, then I like the Lakers Chances of winning it all this year.

Last year, Brian Cardinal played a small yet vital role on a title team. Even stiffs can turn it on in this league.

love what sessions brings. sad to see fish and walton go, but those contracts needed to get off thebooks. this team got extremely younger

Honestly even if Sessions doesn't pan out the Lakers still get rid of two bench players, one who's contract was deemed untradeable

Kapono is a vet min.. Luke is a 6m expiring next year. With this cba, expiring contracts are valuable.

Why is it teams just give the Lakers everything they need for no reason?

This

Ramon doesn't need to be borderline all-star like some of these posts here imply, just needs to play solid ball: penetrate, make the extra pass and make his open shots off double teams Kobe, Pau and Drew attract.

Exactly. Well said.;)

We already have 3 all stars as it is. I think expecting to have 4 is too much. Sessions is easily a good enough point guard for us. I see a lot of pick and roll with Bynum and Gasol and I see a lot of penetration dishing it or lobbing it up to our twin towers.

Great move by the LakeShow... but they had to give up the legendary Luke Walton.

Not Walton. What do you give up to get him? No team wants him, do you know why? He got an actual boost in pay when he got traded to Cleveland, something like an extra 600K b/c of his trade kicker.
