The Grizzlies are exploring the possibility of adding free-agent guard Gilbert Arenas, according to multiple NBA sources.

Arenas, 30, remains unemployed after the Orlando Magic made him one of the first casualties of the amnesty clause provided in the latest collective bargaining agreement.

Despite mutual interest, no deal will be completed until the Griz have the opportunity to see Arenas in a private workout. A source with knowledge of the negotiations indicated both parties were arranging a meeting.

Even though Arenas averaged a career-worst 10.8 points a game and shot 36.6-percent in 2010-11 while playing for the Magic and Washington Wizards, the Griz need backcourt depth and more outside shooting.

Memphis (24-17) is the fourth seed in the Western Conference playoff standings but it isnít comfortable with the backup point guards on the roster.

The 6-4 Arenas, if healthy and in shape, is a three-time All-Star who averaged 21.2 points and 5.4 assists as a combo guard in his 10-year NBA career.

Orlando still owes Arenas $62 million for using the one-time amnesty provision. If Arenas were to sign with the Griz, they could only offer him the veteran's minimum worth about $1.4 million.

Arenas would be on the second unit Crooner, and we already know Hollins wont deal with selfish play from a former star past his prime (Allen Iverson)

At a 1.4 mil salary, whats the big deal? If it doesnt work out cut him! We need a vet pg who can knock down outside shots for our second unit

We HAVE to have a vet point guard for Conley. This is a chance at redemption for Arenas. If he can still ball, as fadeaway said, why not?

If JR Smith is on an NBA team, then Gilbert Arenas will find a suitor eventually.

1. Gilbert is just 2 or 3 seasons removed from averaging 30 ppg.

2. Now, he is not that good but he can certainly be a role player.

3. You are kidding yourself if you think that JR Smith is anything more than a bench player who has a good game one out of every five games.

Gilbert > Smith but they both suck.

Did I say he was more than a bench player?
Did I say he was better than Gilbert? ( He probably is at this point, but can't say since agent zero has been out of the league)

Everyone gets that you hate the Knicks, but save your baiting bs for a thread that is at least remotely related to them.
