Orlando woke up before its really too late. If they had traded him months ago they would have gotten more value. Now they'll get a ****** package somewhere, but still better than nothing.

Smart move by management finally. Get rid of him for the best offer available, at least get something for him, someone will take a Dwight Howard rental. Who knows, maybe whoever makes the trade will actually be able to pry him away from Brooklyn. Doesnt seem too likely but it should be fun.

Rockice_8
03-14-2012, 01:34 PM
Good for the Magic? I wouldn't be so sure about that. They are a playoff upset special and if they take a deal just to take a deal they lose out on making a possible playoff run. Dwight is in one of those groves that can carry a team to the ECF. If you get there anything can happen just ask the Mavs.

Lets hold off before we start praising the Magic FO. Unless you are getting a really nice return like DEN or Utah then they might be better off going the CLE route. CLE now has Irving who they wouldn't have if they trade LBJ for middle of the road talent forcing them to mediocrity. They are in a very tough spot. They better hope they can attach some bad contracts to him at least, that's the only way they can be viewed as successful here.

People need to think long term, getting average players isn't always better then getting nothing. Magic FO needs to think smart rather then just trying to save face by getting anything they can. Like I said they only way I see them coming out better then they went in is to attach some bad contracts to him if they can.

Read this very good article on the situation the Magic FO is in

The Magic team is nowhere near the talent the MAVS from last year. And plus the Magic would have to go through the bulls and heat which is a near impossible task.

they were about to get hosed had they not done this. Dwight telling them to keep him through the year, that way any team that wanted him didnt have to give up their pieces to have him. Orlando just should have done this sooner now that they are getting right up on the trade deadline

Good for my Magic...Alex Martins has come to his senses. People saying that the Magic will be low balled by the Nets are probably correct...but, if the Nets offer isn't to the Magic's liking, it will be highly likely that we will trade him to a team willing to rent him....at last count those teamsn numbered about 8....

Juwan and Eddy when combined together are almost 14 feet and like 2,000 lbs. So the Magic gain size in this deal. And Orlando gets a Howard back, so this way Juwan can just wear #12, and it's like nothing ever happened

why are you guys saying for the magic to just take any deal for him? first of all, the magic dont have to settle. if dwight walks, ok you gain valuable cap space. and im sure free agents would love to come to orlando. also, if you are a team and you really want dwight? do you really wanna compete with 29 other teams in a free agency freenzy?? or would you rather give up what orlando wants and get dwight NOW. orlando still holds the cards if you ask me.

Letting him walk is better than some of these deals, especially any deal that doesn't take Hedo and instead adds a ton of salary paid to overpaid player to us. They have little leverage, but they still have some. They don't have to trade him...that's their leverage.

Dont kid yourself. A dwight-less magic = 8 seed battle, year in and year out.

Orlando is nice, but its not NY and not LA, so you cant use the whole prime location argument there.

I know all reports say he'll go to NJ...but Dwight is as fickle as they come...and unless they've colluded and Dwight has made a verbal promise, if I'm NJ I don't take the risk and just wait. If he changes his mind, it could set the franchise back another 5 years...

Orlando will NOT be in the position to demand anything if they publicly state that he is going to be moved.

They are IN the position to take the best player/trade available.

Orlando will also be getting plenty of garbage offers. And no team other than GS was wanting to trade for howard with out a rental. GS already traded the pieces that would have went to the Magic. Also not many teams will want to trade multiple players for Howard knowing he will bolt in 8 weeks.

The game has changed right now if the reports are true about Howard being dealt if he doesn't commit.
