The New Jersey Nets are setting into a motion a plan to sign Howard, re-sign Deron Williams and keep restricted free agent Brook Lopez on an approximate $10 million annual salary, sources said. The Nets are working on several ways to shed several more million dollars of future payroll that will give them the flexibility to re-sign Lopez. The Nets and Charlotte Bobcats have had extensive talks on a deal that would send Boris Diaw’s expiring contract to New Jersey for several players and a first-round pick, sources said. The Nets could clear about $6.5 million in cap room with the trade. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-wojnarowski_dwight_howard_magic_nets_trade_031312

That could be a good team. I'm still skeptical though.

they'll most likely put him at power forward if they do keep him.

I say trade him for a starting SF (like GForce) and draft a PF; this class is loaded with quite a few good ones.

if we get rid of farmar they better have a plan for a backup pg, cus gaines is terrible. and with all of dwills injuries they need a decent backup

Why? They already have Humphries and GForce is on the wrong side of 30 (Batum would be a way better option). That wouldn't be very smart on the part of the Nets.

I could see Lopez playing in a Gasol like role at PF , scoring from mid range while being another 7 foot guy down low.

Draft a guy like Mike Gilchrist to put at SF and you run with a roster of

Deron-runs the offense, elite PG
Brooks-solid young wing scorer, up and comer
Gilchrist-lock down perimeter defender, very smart, excellent fit at SF
Lopez-scoring big man, very young, also a trade asset
Howard-completes the defense, elite center

That's one hell of a young and solid team.

Humphries is overrated (and a FA in 2012) and the Blazers won't part with Batum... I'd trade for the best SF I can get for Lopez and then draft Davis, Drummond, Moultrie, Robinson or Sullinger to play alongside Dwight.

Lopez can't guard PFs and getting Dwight to guard them would limit his defensive prowess.

Yeah, if/when they sign Dwight, they should ship him off for two pieces...mainly wing help.

Although, I think his offensive game would compliment Dwight's. He's got a bit more natural scoring ability, and more range. He's still more of a true center though...

10 mil. per would be a very good deal for nj, considering that deander jordan earns the same

Not sure how I like Lopez at PF defensively so maybe D12 will guard the opposing forward at times, but offensively he will definitely benefit by being able to post up smaller defenders and stretch the floor with Dwight down low. If the Nets can pull this off in the off season and get lucky enough to get Barnes or Kidd-Gilchrist then this team can be dirty.

So is that 2 million dollars per rebound? :P

Isn't Lopez a RFA? I have to believe that some other team out there will offer more than 10 million

If Dallas strikes out on Howard/Williams they'll have alot of money to spend and an obvious hole at center.... could make a run at Lopez.

A Lopez Dirk frontline? IMO the Mavs would be much better off exploring other options.

he isn't that good of a player. they would be better off trading him for a couple perimeter athletes/3 point shooters

Problem is Lopez will get more money elsewhere

someone will overpay for him. 10 million dollars is ok, anything higher is pushing it. great offensive game, lazy as hell on defense/rebounding. he has the ability to pull maybe 8-9 rebounds a game, he just decides not to.

I like Terrence Jones as a better NBA player than Michael Gilchrist. If NJ could draft Jones that would be great for them.

No different than how Memphis has used Gasol for years.

and what the hell makes any of you think that the magic wont trade him for a bag of balls just to get something in return? you really think there gonna let him walk away for nothing? and if he goes to the nets who is included in the deal. ohhhhhhhhh okay.

I love Hump but Lopez is way better. Lopez can score 20 in his sleep.
