Spurs beat writer:
Jeff McDonald ‏ @JMcDonald_SAEN:
After latest neck injury, TJ Ford says he is retiring. More to come.

Man, this guy fell off the radar fast as just 3 seasons ago he was still playing at a fringe All-Star level. It's a shame he never really recovered from his first injury via Horford; but the guy was an electric player when he was "on".

Sad that he's still just 28.

"While this was a tough decision to make, it is what is best for me and my family at this time," said Ford. "I have been blessed to play alongside wonderful teammates for great coaches and organizations from high school, to college, to the NBA. Regardless of what the future holds, I will carry the experiences, the friendships and the memories with me forever. The support I've received from family, friends and the fans has been humbling and I am looking forward to evaluating my professional options following this season."

Turns out that "stinger" from the Knicks game was worse than predicted. He got hit in the back by Baron Davis and the whiplash effect had him grounded for several minutes.

Good player, good guy. Probably could've had a better career if healthy though.

Except Raptors were MUCH better as a TEAM once they started Calderon, who ate Tjs lunch.

Pity he has to retire tough.

It's a shame everyone thought he would be the next Chris Paul... After he left the Raps he fell off the radar and was left to rott on the Pacers bench and later on the Spurs.

He's a multi millionare though so I think he'll be ok ;)

Wow. I really got scared when he hit his neck on Wednesday. It's sad at how many talented players the NBA has lost due to injury this season.

Yao, Roy, Ford.

Dude Calderon was way better than Ford. When he started Jose was averaging like 10 assists a game and Raptors were winning.

They barely got to .500 and was the reason the raptors missed out on a top 5 all star center... ford was also their most clutch player and was more of a leader

Dude, Jose was outplaying him right away from the bench in less minutes.
all Tj ever did was chuck shots.

Come on man, give the dude a little credit. Frankly the best ball the team played was when Ford started, Jose came out and lead the best bench in the NBA and they were both on the floor to close out games. The whole "who should start" thing was never an issue until the Horford issue which caused a ton of friction in the locker room and ultimately lead to the the team's downfall.

The combination of Ford/Calderon was outperforming pretty much every other pg tandem in the league, and that's not only because of Calderon

I liked TJ when he was on the Raptors, he had a spark to him but he also had mental issues a lot of the time and couldn't really cope when Calderon was starting.

Repeated injuries to the neck must be a scary thing, he could well have been paralyzed if one of them was really severe.

Good luck to him in the future.

When he was healthy, Ford was one of (if not THE) quickest guards in the league. He was fun to watch when he was on.

Hate to see careers cut short, but staying healthy and leading a normal life is more important.
