If this game goes as expected the Knicks will be 18-23 and STILL in the Eastern playoffs. That's ridiculous. 18-23 puts you in the 13-14 seed out west. Down near the very bottom of the conference.

Dead for weeks, ever since Melo got back. 2-7 since his return, about to lose their 5th straight if they can't mount a comeback.

@Jpro, they're actually pretty good defensively when Melo's out and Fields/Shumpert are in.

Despite their talents, the Knicks just suck. A great coach would help them tremendously, but it looks like they're stuck with D'Antoni for now.

Amare part is true (and he was playing like it for a stretch), Melo part is not.

They overrated him, but there wasn't even a vocal minority who thought he was better than Lebron. Durant, yes. And really that's just as bad.

By the way, Philly's looking great with Turner stepping it up. Look out for them when they finally get their starting center back later this week. The team will NOT be an easy out.

D'Antoni benched Melo for the 4th quarter. Yikes.

Has he always been such a strong rebounder?? But yeah, he's been impressive lately.

Yeup, even when his shot was completely non-existent, he always had incredible rebounding ability to carry him. Before starting he had the highest rebounding rate for all SG's, and now that he's getting the nod he's truly showing that he can get up for boards like a PF (a la 09-10 Gerald Wallace) and I don't think it's homerism to say he's arguably the best rebounding wing in the NBA.

His play has completely changed the Sixers outlook right when things were starting to turn ugly.

Not really a small sample size, prior to being inserted into the starting lineup he was leading all guards in rebounds per 48 min, so he was always rebounding at a high rate. The extra playing time is doing more for the rest of his game than his rebounding, he's always cleaned the glass.

Do you see the Bulls going far with Noah as center, how bout the Heat with Anthony at center, or Perkins with the Thunder. Yeah all those teams can go far because they have other pieces that are very good. You don't have to have Dwight Howard at center to be a contender or competitive in the playoffs. Hawes was playing better than both of those centers. You are trying to tell me that center is the end all for a team when there aren't that many quality centers to begin with. Hawes is one of those quality centers when healthy.

Fun fact: Kobe Bryant takes 19% more shots a game than the next closest player in the league. Interesting number considering you play with the most efficient scoring combo down low in the league.

And I gotta say, it WAS refreshing seeing Wilbon et al finally calling out Kobe for his 4th quarter play this year; which like I've said, is the worst in the NBA.

I think you're right, they'll have to just to spark something there. I don't think they'll be looking to make any deadline trades do you?

Not to pour it on but I just checked and this is another really ugly stat if you're a Knick fan: http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/powerrankings/_/page/2/sort/sos

^They've had the easiest schedule in the NBA thus far.

honestly i don't know what kind of player could help them? what are they really lacking at this point on paper? short of dumping amare and his contract and his knees. they have back court depth, a center, two supposed stars and a supposed good head coach.

this was also a classic case of both teams sweating their hangovers out in the first half. sunday afternoon games tend to be sloppier in general. but the team plays with no continuity or passion on the floor. which is amazing considering how much chemistry the linsanity all-scrub team played with. i tend to feel melo gets a bad rap, but its becoming really really hard to argue that his presence has not had an adverse effect on team chemistry. really not sure whats up with that team. but with all that talent, to look like that big of a mess is a huge indictment on the coaching staff and the team culture.

d'antoni got his free pass with linsanity, and it probably saved him his job this year for what thats worth. but as far as im concerned hes run out of excuses and probably should have been fired anyway.

You're right. Kobe is the only player in the league that gets away with fouls and the only one that argues em.

Players get the benefit of the call when they're on offense. Loose ball foul, running into a player (like kobe did to rubio) and even when creating contact that shouldn't even be a foul (like when a player creates contact despite the defender jumping straight up with his hands straight up). edit: I'm laughing at your reasoning up there @Ari Gold. "Rubio impeded his progress"! Haha, isn't that the case in every charge? Again, nobody's saying that this is particular to Kobe.

Assists won't be too different between Turner and Lou to be honest. Difference of 1-2 a game. 43% on the year. Takes 19% more field goal attempts than the next closest player in the entire NBA....... I don't know how much wood a woodchuck could chuck, but I know it's less than Kobe.

We get it.

I'm not defending kobe in any way, he's sucked this year, can't deny that. But seriously. Tredigs is more obsessed with kobe than his own team. I guess he's happy though.

Well, we're watching a Laker game. Kind of hard to miss. More than willing to call out his ridiculous play during their games or in the MVP thread where he is placed as the "#3 candidate" by NBA.com.

This drum's not gonna beat itself fellas.

Why were there a ton of purple in the first 10 rows of the stadium? Because the Lakers fans (they have an enormous fan base) made their way down since it was a blowout and they started the chants.

You might be right, i don't think boston fans existed til the big 3 got together.
