“I almost signed with Toronto,” Ramirez said.

Why didn’t he?

“There were doubts,” he continued. “At first they said yes. Then they said, ‘We’re going to have to think about it.’

“I said to my wife, ‘In God’s path, there are no doubts.’ These people (the A’s) came in, I felt good with my heart. I said, ‘Baby, this is the team.’ ”

Not a huge loss in my mind. Exciting player with a legendary career, but has his age and time off caught up with him?

cool religious reasoning manny. in god's path, i will not be dicked around. just as well, it would have been nice but E.E and possibly thames (stand-in) deserve more of those dh at bats.

Not convinced he'll out-produce Encarnacion at this point... Time will tell.

I'm glad the team didn't waste a roster spot for him. Even if he played for free, he is still a cancer in clubhouse. The best thing to happen to the Rays was him being suspended last year. He doesn't work on a young team like that.

he didn't do much last year on the juice.

He definitely could have a negative effect on our younger players.

We cant wait 50 games for him to come on the roster, we need to win now.

Last year, we were a revolving door of players, we dont want that again.

Combine that with Manny being Manny, now thanks.....I was open to him last year for the right price, but now, hes done.

Actually 50g would give us a good determination of what we wanted to do with EE, Lind, Thames, and Snider going forward

Hes probably right. Oakland is the best situation for him. There are no doubts on God's path, and his path lead to Oakland so best of luck to Manny!

Id still take manny coming off the bench in a close game to pinch hit over valbuena, Mccoy, Fransisco, Mathis and Vizquel

...while completely discounting what the other players you mentioned offer from the defensive side.

Unless of course he is able to provide the minimal semblance of being able to catch. Then you might be able to convince me in taking him over Mathis.

sign him and canseco, hell bring back big mac. Rather see him than lind.

LF Manny
DH Canseco
1b McGwire

what a lineup.

You forgot Bonds. Might as well sign Clemons to shore up the rotation, while you are at it.

Having defence is nice n all but can any of those guys hit? None of those bats are better than our starters.

For example in the bottom of the 9th man on second in a tie game with JPA coming to the plate.

Personally I would want to pinch hit for him. But I can't since none of those guys with 'defence' can hit

Francisco is pretty dreadful in the OF, not to mention completely unnecessary given how many guys on the roster can handle LF in a pinch (Davis, KJ, EE). Considering the fact that he isn't much of a hitter either I'd certainly rather Manny than him on the bench.

People seem to judge a persons personality over their skills.

Im willing to bet that a washed up Manny can hit better than anyone on our bench

I'm willing to take that bet.

Are you basing your hypothesis on seeing Manny taking actual AB's? Or is it just a hunch?

Were not talking bout the starting Left Fielder. Were talking about a pinch hitter in a close game who is making less than Omar Viszquel.
Top of the ninth. You bring Manny to pinch hit.He doesn't need to play on the field. He draws a walk or gets on base you bring in Rajai Davis to pinch run or play in the field. Simple as that.

Think Matt Stairs. Everyone loved him off and its not like he was winning gold gloves

I see what you're saying, but I think we have that already in one of Thames or Encarnacion. Especially with Snider possibly turning the corner in his development.

I role like that is more common in the NL with no DH and deeper benches.
