On top of that Josh Smith had a huge game without our "all-stars" and pulled out the win.

The NBA disrespects Josh Smith with those All-star selections, and "rumors" saying the Hawks will trade him for KG. Yeah right.

Because he doesn't have his own shoes and he doesn't have a "scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" relationship with ESPN, that only "star" players and big market guys can only do. Easy to exploit that way.

The vid really doesn't do it justice. Watching it live, you could see the whole sequence coming a mile away and BOOM.

Atlanta should have just taken the TPE for Joe Johnson and built around Horford, Smith, and Teague.

There isn't a Hawks fan that hasn't said this. Could you imagine Dwight walking as a Free Agent and seeing his best friend and hometown team has salary to offer him max?

Teague with Smith, Horford, and Howard would be a beast. There is still a chance some vet team would want Joe and trade for him with expirings, one can only hope.

Josh Smith. I've been saying this for a while.... but he's essentially a poor man's Lebron.

This guy needs the right coach. He is actually great in the paint, but his FG% just gets CRUSHED by his horrible outside jump shots. If someone could get it through his head that high % shots win games, he could be an incredible player.

Athletically SO GIFTED. Strong, fast, agile, got decent touch, can rebound, aggressive... There's almost nothing wrong with this guy except his basketball IQ. If he could just realize that he should be a post game guy with the occasional WIDE OPEN jump shot (that he can actually hit... but only if he's WIDE open), he would be so much more complete.

Such a waste of talent... I see this same aspect in Cousins. Cousins' combination of size, touch, and athleticism is unreal. So much raw talent. I hate seeing players like him go to waste.

I'm not sure why, but I'm really rooting for those two.

i dont' know what the big deal is when being "dunked on".
you go up for the block, sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't. at least you gave an effort.

last thing i want is for players to stop attempting blocks in fear of being "posterized".

It was about as flukey as the Hawks actually beating the Thunder. Sorry, but Atlanta is a weak team with overrated players. If we play em 20 times, we win about 18, and if Josh Smith tries to dunk on Serge, he gets his stuff thrown about 18 times. Tonight was just one of those weird nights, everything went right for them, Miami went through the same thing last night in Utah. Hey, crazy things happen sometimes. We'd LOVE to play the Hawks in a series, but that will NEVER happen.

I agree. I think the posterized dunking is way overrated. Too name a few, I'll take a windmill, 360 or between the legs dunk ANY DAY over a heavily repeated posterized dunk.

This Smith dunk was more of a body on body, strength dunk.

Griffin's pinky finger hit the rim on his dunk, but other than that, it looked like he couldn't reach the rim, so he just threw the ball down as hard as he can. Star power (since he is playing in L.A.) will most likely get him the "better dunk", but this Smith one is a better dunk on a known shot blocker.

You treat it like Perkins isn't even worth mentioning as a defender. Both dunks were on damn good paint defenders.

Raph12

Ibake needs to know when to let one go, otherwise he should expect to get dunked on a lot in today's league.

Yes but Perk is about as athletic as a 2-month old baby, so if Blake did it in a 1v1 set, the fact that it was against Perk would be impressive. Since he attacked the basket and Perk tried to jump (with his 10" vertical), it's not so impressive (impressive dunk, but the guy he dunked on wasn't a prolific shotblocker or anything).

When I watch Smith sometimes you see this guy do some amazing things. He could be amazing he's a great athlete. Other times when Hawks need a win he just does stupid ****. With his talent he shouldn't always settle for Jump shots. He's a match up nightmare and doesn't take advantage as much as he should.

A guy with his talent shouldn't have a 456 efg he's starting to remind me of Tyrus Thomas.

Agreed. And he had a full load of steam to run and jump over a guy who was stationary directly beneath the basket. In that scenario, pretty much only Ibaka ducking out of the way would have saved him from being postered there.

Nice smash, and good on Ibaka for not taking the easy route.

Good rationale for hating a guy; refs missed "half" of his goaltends and called them blocks (obviously you're a homer and wrong here), so you hate the player himself. Haha.

And Ibaka had 10 blocks/triple double like 4 games later. He's a boss.

It's no big deal, they were just lucky. They caught us on the right night, that's all. Utah got the same thing against the Heat. It happens. We're not even sharp yet, we're still just doing it all on raw talent. We haven't even come close to putting it all together. But trust me, if the Hawks played us in a series, they'd get WAXED.

That's my whole point about Atlanta. They're overrated, their individual players, and as a team. They're the kind of team that can lose 4 straight at home to scrub teams and then upset the Thunder at the end of their East road trip and think it makes em really good. Seriously, the Hawks are pure garbage. I know garbage when I see it, and that team is definitely garbage.
