Even if this is just for one game, it is still somewhat disrespectful to a NBA veteran like Odom, and certainly doesn't make his situation in Dallas any better.

If we jump in tha PSD time machine here, go back to DALLAS vs LAL playoffs ,.. and Odom had that cheap shot on Dirk,... then Bynum's cheap shot on Barea,..

All this to me is a good ol' case of basketball karma! haja ironic how he ended up with tha Mavs, and now he on tha tha D-league lmao,.... LUV IT!

From NBA Champion 6th man of the year for the Los Angeles Lakers/Olympic Gold Medal Champion/NBA All-Star to D-league scrub in Texas.

I wouldnt be surprised if he retires before this season ends.

You guys are over-reacting. There was a new rule installed this year that any team can send one of their players to the D-League to go on a "rehab" assignment, exactly like the MLB. The one quirk here is that the player has to agree to it, so the Mavs just can't send him there without Lamar agreeing to it

This is first year, remember, that veteran NBA players can be sent to D-League on baseball-style rehab stints ... with player consent

And people say Kobe dosent make his teammates better, lol. Last year with the Lakers 6th man of the year, this year with Dirk and the Mavs D-league. Case closed. J/k I hope he gets his game back or Dallas lets him go or trades him back, I still miss Odom in a Lakers uniform.

Lamar agreed to this, are some of you guys grasping that? Essentially he's doing the same thing Dirk did, only he'll be playing the game rather than running a treadmill or whatever it is Dirk did during his midseason sabbatical.

That said, let's not downplay what a failure his move to Dallas has been, and this move is definitely indicative to that. They need to figure out how to get his head right more so than his conditioning.

Without JJ an an integral spark for them off the bench or Chandler in the playoff half-court atmosphere, Lamar's going to have to come up huge for them if they still want to contend. Although contending was not their #1 priority this season. Cap space was.

Yes, we know that.

We are just shocked at the fact that it would happen to someone of odom's caliber. I could see this happening to a player like Luke Walton who was never anybody in the NBA, but Odom?

Chandler and Barea were only gonna stay if they got 4 year deals worth mega bucks. Cuban is a genius. He sign Carter for cheap and got an expiring Odom for nothing.

Chandler wasnt worth the money he commanded, and thats the opinion of many.

JJ was allowed to walk in hopes that a Deron + d12 teaming up would happen in Dallas this offseason. JJ wanted a longer contract and more $. That's why he signed 4 years 19 million with Minnesota.

Lakers fans know how fragile Odom is mentaly. He has a ton of talent, but it was like pulling teeth to get him to be consistent and it was all in his head. He finally found his role coming off the bench, but the trade and his family problems made him damaged goods this season

Hope he can get his head on straight.

Yeah I think he has worn out his stay here..When Dirk takes shots at his work ethic, I assume the rest of the lockeroom feels the same...

That being said, do we let him rot on the bench, trade him to a lottery team for a pick? BC I would hate to buy him out and let him choose where he wants to go...

Why is everyone calling this disrespectful. You have a player on your team that you're playing millions and millions of dollars to, who's supposed to be a great player, a sixth man of the year, if not starter, who is underperforming all season. On top of that you hear rumors that he's unhappy and never wanted to come to the team in the first place. You hear that he considered retiring instead of playing for your team. You hear that he wants a buyout to go play for another team. All rumors, but you're hearing this on top of his lost in the headlights play.

I can understand people thinking it's disrespectful to a player of Odom's caliber to be sent to the D league. In reality though, the NBA is a business, and he is/was an underperforming talent who was becoming a distraction. It's a team and it's a business. The Mavs are doing what's good for the team and business.

The Lakers front office made the right move in getting rid of Odom.....look at how far he's fallen.

What most people dont understand is that this fall STARTED at the beginning of last year's playoffs. He absolutely sucked throughout them, and like Pau, didnt show up for the Lakers AT ALL. Pau came back and is playing once again at a high level. Odom simply COULDNT accomplish that feat.

Alot of people will point to the distraction of his wife and her drama filled TV show, which is part of the problem. The other part is age and diminishment of skills....we are so used to seeing certain players last until thier mid to late 30's that we forget that MOST players fall off drastically around 32-33 years old.

Couple that with his fragile mentality (which he's always had) and you get the product you see now. D-League fodder.

Lakers got over bigtime on this trade. Perfect timing for them in this case.
