View Full Version : Report: Lamar Odom seeking buyout; wants to join Celtics or Nets

Fresno

What a weird season it's been for Lamar Odom.

The Mavericks forward's unhappiness with the trade that brought him from Los Angeles was well-documented, and according to multiple reports he has requested a buyout of his contract. The rumors blog Hoops Authority rekindled that rumor on Tuesday, adding that the Celtics would be one of Odom's preferred destinations.

Why the hell does everyone want to go to the freaking Nets?

well in lamars case he's from queens new york and if the dwight & deron pairing happens he would contend.. in nj case this gives them more ammo if they now can acquire lamar and give up hump in the dwight deal to take on hedo's contract .. this is what orlando really wants.. and now it becomes a really good deal.. because hump is an expiring contract and hedos contract is now off their hands..

dwill/farma
stevenson/morrow
hedo/green
odom/?
howard/petro

looks like the orlando team that went to the finals with odom being a mismatch pf like lewis and steveson being the defending 3 point shooter like lee..

idk just a guess..

He can't be a Laker until next season, even though UCLA could treat his dad. He hates Sterling and has never hid it, so he will not sign with the Clippers. Miami is a talent fit but they don't have the medical facilities for his dad. NY has them but not an opening. Nets are close enough to hime and give him access to the NY hospitals for his father, while Boston has specialists to treat his dad too. Makes sense

Kind of sucks being an average player in the spotlights of Hollywood to being average player on a team in the midwest. The ego blow must be great.

Spurred1
02-29-2012, 06:12 PM
Cuban is unlikely to buy him out. He needs to suck it up and earn his pay. He specifically requested a trade, he got it, and then he turns into Antoine Walker, part two, except Walker was better for the Mavericks.
I realize that I may sound cold, but give me a break. The situation with his father doesn't seem to be anything new-his dad has been an addict for years. Maybe the best thing for Lamar to do would be retire from the NBA and continue breaking sex swings on television. The Mavs have coddled him way too much.

Doubt that-the Magic aren't just going to let him walk away. They'll likely trade him to the Nets for Lopez/Brooks, etc. Otis Smith has made some questionable moves, but he's not insanely stupid. The Magic will need to get something back-they can trade him if they want, providing they get a team willing to give up enough.

It has nothing to do with any of that.. Hes from ny and he may play with deron & dwight..

Lamar just wants to be a focal piece of a contending team and not dirks backup.. Dallas is a big city and a huge media market.. Can a player just want to go home? Ny is going to have players want them because alot of players are from there

As long as Avery Johnson is their coach, I'm not too worried. Like the Clippers, they'll be a very good team, but I have a hard time looking at them as a great playoff team with a coach who has shown to be pathetically bad at making adjustments.

In fact, that's the team they'd remind me exactly of: the Clippers. Oodles of talent with a key factor missing, a competent coach.

He can leave. When we acquired him I was so excited that we were getting a 14/10 guy who had PG skills. Fact is, he doesn't care and any athlete who takes time off while the team is in a big position to move up in the standings is a loser. His dad was sick and yes it is important but he wasn't anywhere close to death.

He is selfish and the Nets or Celtics can have him. Mega talented player but his head is not in the right place.

The word on the streets is that the Mavs may trade Lamar Odom to Phoenix for Steve Nash. That will get Odom closer to his home in LA.

Dwain Price tweet.

I don't know how much validity but it does make some sense for Nash. Gets traded to a contender and reunited with his best friend while PHX gets an ultra talented player. It's only be for the rest of the year though.

I don't see Lamar as a great FA acquisition. He strikes me as a mentally fragile player, and a guy who takes a great deal of time to become acclimatized to a new situation and to develop chemistry with his teammates. He's a little too old to want to invest in him at this point.

There is no way Dallas buys him out and then risks him going to someone in the western conference that could hurt them in the playoffs mark Cuban isn't an idiot

Shoot, if I were Dallas I would try to trade him to Charlotte for Diaw's expiring. That would get rid of the buyout money Dallas would be on the salary cap hook for.

Yeah, He'll sign with the Nets IF he is bought out.

He's from NY, I know the reality show is something that will probably put pressure on that choice as well.

you might want to rethink your sexuality then.

duh he's going to jersey to help respark the romance between kim and humphries. wedding: the sequel fellas, i personally cant wait.

odom needs to take a deep breath and count his blessings. life might not be preferable right now, but no one in his position should be so irritated with life.

Pretty much what I was going to say. Well, the bottom part anyways.

Lamar is lost.Of course. Any guy who is traded away from a city he loves would obviously be upset. Just listen to what he said to Stephen A. Smith after the CP3 situation.

Going the nets maybe be in the best interest for his wife more then him... Once they move to Brooklyn the media coverage they would get would be insane..

Would love for him to be picked up by LA in the offseason, reunited for the team he really wants to play for. Especially if we can get him for the right price

it would be awkward if lamar and hump played on the same team lol.

btw, for people who do not know, he is from queens, which is an explanation as to why he would want to go to the nets (besides dwill and possibly howard scenario).

Lamar Odom said he wants to go back and play for the Los Angeles Clippers. The guy really wants to go back to Los Angeles, CA.
