http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/02/25/report-derrick-rose-signs-new-deal-with-adidas-goes-from-super-rich-to-obscenely-rich/

Update: Hoopshype is saying it's a 13 year 185 mill deal... Incentives though are said to push it above $200 mill easily.

Rose shortly after was quoted as saying..."I'm rich *****"

Richard Hamilton IS an improvement to the Bulls

If only this happened with teams other than with sponsors. Royalty > Rings... but let's not go down that LeBron's Decision road again.

Congrats to Rose, he is now in the Kobe-zone where he could get a divorce, lose half of his money and still not give a $%^& for dropping a $500 note on the street.

guaranteed $185 million over 13 years, and incentives are what pushes it over the top into that $200-plus range.

Misleading title.

$185 million at the very minimum. People are acting like it's not that much cuz it's not automatically $260 million. Give me a break. In reality, Rose will most likely reach the majority of his incentives.

i was hoping that he'd eventually get with Nike but whatever, hes doing his thing and making money. although, it was unrealistic for that to happen with his adizero being popular

Why?

With Nike he has to compete against the likes of Kobe, Lebron and Durant. Here he literally owns Adidas. Hence his ridiculous sales in China. He can very well reach MJ type power in Adidas. Especially if he can win a few rings before his career is over. Tmac could of had it and did to some degree, but he couldn't sustain his play long enough and don't you remember how popular those shoes were?

Rose could very well be the first superstar perimeter player for adidas that can actually sustain his level of play long enough.

You have to also look at guys like Iverson and Pippen. Made endless money but then went broke.
It'd be nice if players did what you suggested but realistically I don't blame them for trying to maximize what they make.
I wouldn't be surprised if in maybe 10 years he starts taking 'steve nash' type paycuts to help bring stars to the team and keep them competitive.

Why do people question his marketability? Is there really anyone else in the league that would be more perfect to build your brand around? He is a very young player who just won the MVP, on one of the best teams in the league, and is a genuinely nice and humble person. He is a perfect role model. If he isn't worth that money, then no one else in the NBA should be IMO.

ManRam

wow. good for him

imagine if he was bubbly and entertaining (off-the-court)...he'd be worth so much more. that's unreal to even think about. i won't lie, for that reason i'm a bit surprised...but the media loves his, the majority of nba fans love him, he's in a huge market...his marketability is huge, i just had no idea it was this huge.

but what do i know about any of that? nothing.

And that's why I laugh at people who think he should go to Nike. The guy literally OWNS the basketball side of things in Adidas now. Wouldn't be surprised if his shoes soon become as influential as Tmac's once were.

Rose said he signed a "lifetime" contract with Adidas, which a source confirmed is for 14 years and $260 million. CSNChicago.com first reported that figure.

Hopefully this means that he doesn't care what he makes and will finally talk to some stars to come play with him.

Not that their team isn't stacked, it needs a legit #2 scoring attack in the paint and Noah and Boozer just can't do it. I unlike many people aren't worried about bringing Howard in, I'd love Gasol here. Rose/Deng/Gasol/Rip/Noah would be a very tough team to beat.

The original article stated $185 mil for 13 years.

Up to that point, it was well warranted.

If it is $260 mil for 14 years, so be it.

This is how superstars can circumvent the purpose of a salary cap. Why would any of the elite players want to sign outside of the major media centers when it would cost them money in endorsements ? Lebron earned $ 50 million( based on an older shoe contract) in 2010 and how much of that was on the court ?
If you are a superstar you play for a lesser than max contract- but still enough to stroke your ego-in order to play with other elite players in a massive media center. Not only is your team stacked and quite likely to win a championship to cement your legacy as an NBA all time great but your personal status is elevated by your teams success. More national television exposure which dramatically increases your value to Nike, Pepsi or Rolex.
All of this at the expense of fair play and all the teams and fans outside the major media centers.

Rose will never ask another player to come here because that's not his style. He shouldn't have to ask anyone for that matter. Chicago being a great city, the Bulls being a top team with a young superstar, and a young supporting cast for many years to come. That speaks for itself.
