ORLANDO, Fla. -- Chris Paul confirmed to ESPN Radio Friday at the NBA All-Star Game that he intends to pick up his option to play with the Clippers next season.

When Paul was traded to the Clippers from New Orleans in December, it was with the idea that if things didn't work out the way he wanted, he could opt out and become a restricted free agent.

But he said he likes his life as a Clipper.

"I'm on West Coast time," he said at a taping of "Meet the All-Stars," which will air on ESPN Radio at 6 p.m. ET Saturday. "I wake up every day and the sun's out and it's beautiful, and basketball's not going too bad at all, either."

The Clippers are third in the Western Conference behind Oklahoma City and San Antonio. Paul, who will play in his fifth All-Star Game Sunday, said he believes the organization, and general manager Neil Olshey, are committed to building the franchise beyond just this season and that he has complete confidence in his teammates.

"(Coach) Vinny (Del Negro) is always telling me be aggressive, be aggressive, go score, go score. I realize I have the ball so much that I can get a shot any time that I want to, but it's not an individual game. I need to make sure my teammates know I'll find them," Paul said. "Even in the fourth quarter may be a situation where a defender comes over, I have to know that my teammates know I'm a willing passer."

Paul, who is averaging 19.2 points and 8.6 assists per game this season, said he also has worked hard to improve defensively.

"That's what I think about all day, every day is, 'How are we gonna stop this team?' " he said. "It's frustrating (to them) when a team can't score. They get mad. Everyone talks about offense, but I pride myself on defense."

That's expected, didn't he say he would which is why the Clippers went through with the trade?

Now the question is if he will sign a new deal there. I hope he does, the Clippers have a bright future.

Let's see.. gets to play with Blake Griffin, has Jordan blocking shots at the rim for him, Butler and Mo Williams on the wings, and they're REALLY young.... yeah it was a really tough choice.

Why not? He's in a great situation and his team is going to be a huge threat if they ever get a SG. JR Smith was an idiot for not trying to go there.

I thought he had to as part of the trade

It was. He agreed to take his player option when they traded for him.

I'm pretty sure this was done when he was traded because the clips wouldn't have done it without it.

Always nice to read anything good about my Clipps! I don't think this is news tho. He bought an $8.5 million home here about 2 months ago, he's more than likely here for a while. Why would he or Blake want to go out and try to find a better teammate? Clippers are set for awhile, God Willing!

Cp3 made this known when he 1st got traded their.

and I hope fans don't start saying that Cp3 has to resign with the clippers, and all that crazy talk... I don't need anymore drama talk like Howard and Melo ... Just shut up and let him decide where he wants to play when his contract is up.

"he intends to"

There is NOTHING SIGNED. Its a verbal agreement.........Carlos Boozer also had a "verbal agreement" with the Cavs and then that summer bolted for Utah. If the Lakers pull Howard outta their azzzzzzz and go to the Finals, while the Clipps lose in the 2nd round you don't think he strongly thinks about joining his boys Kobe and Dwight???

Im not saying it's gonna happen i'm just saying ya never know?

These players are greedy and aren't committed so until he signs on the dotted line we'll see.

You better got on your knees and hope Dwight gives the Lakers the same verbal agreement CP3 gave us.

Or what if they both end up on the Clippers. You right anything CAN happen.

02-25-2012, 06:46 PM
yeah, i thought that was a formality at this point...

i guess it wasn't. a swear it was said when the trade happened that the option was already picked up. oh well...

and now, i'll believe it when i see it. i don't trust a single NBA player's word.

This is old news. He had to pick up the option during the trade otherwise the trade was not happening.
