NEW YORK -- New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin, who famously slept on a teammate's couch the night before his breakout performance, now has an apartment of his own.

The two-bedroom rental is on the 38th floor of the residences at the W New York Downtown Hotel and overlooks the Statue of Liberty.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Lin signed the contract Wednesday.

"It's a nice place to come home to with amazing views," he said in a statement.

The apartment was listed at $13,000 a month. Matthew Moinian, the son of W's developer, says Lin got a better deal, but he declined to disclose the price.

Lin was waiting to see if the Knicks would guarantee him a contract before he got his own apartment. In the meantime, he stayed with his brother and a teammate.

Lin is now signed with the Knicks through the season.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Lin looked at 20 apartments before settling on the 1,182-square-foot unit that had been listed for sale at $2.3 million and was bought by an investor who will continue the rental.

The apartment is fully furnished in a contemporary design, according to the newspaper.

According to the newspaper, Lin tried to eat in the bar and grill on the ground floor of the building but was swamped by fans. Moinian told the newspaper that he then arranged for Lin to have access to the restaurant's private dining room.

Quick Lin fans, now we know where he lives, let's smother him! :jumpy:

Yeah they should not have put the place he is living, but with that I am sure they have good security to prevent anyone from trying to get to him.

12gs to rent it?? That's insane!

This (http://globalgrind.com/channel/culture/content/1695431/house-real-big-lebron-james-new-50-million-dollar-miami-mansion-photos?page=2) is rumored to be LeBron's new Miami home. Don't know if it's legit or not.

God damn I would suck at being at famous I would be screaming at people to get the hell away from me, I have met plenty of famous athletes and I could care less no need for an autograph or picture maybe a handshake if appropriate if they are with their family or having a meal leave them alone if they aren't busy such as shopping then its ok to walk over and say a few words, but damn leave the man alone

Most big cities are more expensive to live in. Probably because they have more to offer...

They did. You can see Bosh's all white house. LeBron's ocean side mansion, Allen Iverson house, Amar'e's apartment in NYC and Melo's.

Just imagine bro. Sideline to watch the Knicks games are topping $6,000 against the Bucks!?!? I think about that **** all the time, I cant even watch seats up in the rafters cause it doesnt make sense to spend over $100 and I would not be able to see the players well...

Lin should have bought the place instead of renting. But 13,000 is pretty reasonable for city prices. He made about 800,000 this year but he will get a new contract next year so lets wait and see.

Probably doesn't have enough yet to drop a down payment on a 2.3 million apt, which would be pretty much more than his whole season's pretax pay on a 30 year mortgage. Its not like he's made a lot of money yet, he's only earned a couple paychecks thus far (the 788k salary is prorata) and you also get taxed 3 ways (Federal, State, NYC) so he doesn't have much to work with yet.

When he gets his first REAL star contract after next season on the Derrick Rose clause, he'll be able to pay the whole thing in cash if he wants (though in his case, he'd probably do a 10 year mortgage so he can use it as a tax deduction).

the likelihood of his apartment being worth a LOT more than 2.3 million 10-20 years from now is higher than the likelihood of a house in Cali being worth more. NYC is pretty much the one location in the entirety of the US where the housing investment is almost always worth it.
