Now sitting in 3rd behind the Heat and Bulls are the 3rd place Magic

They are quietly beating a lot of teams even with all the trade talks

Could they surprise the world and be like the Mavs last year if they don't trade Howard?

No

I wouldn't call it a surprise. Everyone knows they're a good team. The problem is, they have zero chance against Miami or Chicago as their team stands now.

A three seed would be nice for them, but then again, we have no idea how this Dwight situation will play out within the next month.

You know what? It'd be an interesting first round matchup against the Knicks

Dwight is pulling the same crap Melo pulled. He shouldn't gut his future teams assets just to sign an extension ASAP. He should ride the year out and try to win it all with his current roster, which isn't AWFUL (but I don't think it stands a chance against Miami and Chicago). Obviously it's the Magic FO's decision to trade him or not, but Dwight should just take any trade he gets and not try to direct it to a place he wants to sign an extension. The Nets/Mavericks would be a better team without having to give anything up.

They're usually near the top of the East. And even with the Dwight rumors, I wouldn't call it a surprise.

dont mistake the actual seeding of the eastern conference to fool you as to who's a contender or not a contender. the magic are still a team with some very, very bad loses and who can get easily exposed when playing an actual good team.

I don't think they are a championship caliber team. Being a good team won't be enough of a reason to hang on to Dwight.

Outside chance Dwight is impressed by their success and sticks around?

The difference between the 3rd and 6th seed in the east is negligible. It's just a mad dash to avoid Miami and Chicago in round one.

i think d12 just going stay and see how far they can go and if they going to finals d12 will stay for sure and management will make some minor changes for a upgrade on their roster. but it they get knocked out in 1st or 2nd round d12 definitely leaving without anything in return to orlando

If they hit their 3s they do well, no surprise there. They can compete with any team on any given night but in a 7 game series I don't think they can beat Mia Chi Phi Ind NY

They highest seed they can achieve is the 4th seed unless they win their division. Whoever lands as the 5th seed is most likely who they will play.

My guess is the 5th seed would be whoever comes in second place in the atlantic between the Knicks Sixers and Celtics.

A team that has won as many games as they have since Dwight has been there is not a surprise team. A team that made the finals and ECF in recent memory is not a surprise team.

Everyone knew they would be a top 3-4 seed if Dwight was around.

Depends on if they keep dwight, if not someone is going to have an easy first round matchup

otis needs to be thinkin about trading players other than dwight right now. i agree, i dont think we can win a 7 game series against the bulls or heat
