The Rochester Lancers host two remaining regular season home games to conclude their season. The offer stands at $20,000 per game, with a bonus of $5,000 per goal scored, win bonuses, and merchandise bonuses. There are over 12 goals scored on average per game.

Iverson is far from a perfect person, and any consideration of his financial situation has to accept that he frittered away more than $150 million in salary (and more in endorsements) over the course of his NBA career

I don't get how professional athletes in any sport can become flat faced after their careers are over.

Is someone telling me if Iverson opened up a basketball camp or some sort of basketball teaching school, nobody would sign up for that?

Use your skills to make some money.

Did you guys even read the article? This is just a publicity stunt by the soccer team to get attention. AI did not initiate the offer, nor has he in any way, shape, or form, indicated that he'd play soccer. This is just stupid.

I actually respect that he's doing more than other people would do if they are in debt. How ever it's obviously easier for him to get attention then any average person in debt

Pathetic? really? this guy is broke, think about the things you would do to make money, If you have no money you do what you can to get some. I feel bad but I will not lose respect if he does, this you have to do what you have to do, to survive leave the guy alone

I always thought that if Iverson played soccer from birth instead of basketball he couldda been one of the best there was.

There are a lot of black athletes that could have taken up Soccer and done well... Ocho Cinco is the first that comes to mind as he actually did... thing is it's not an urban sport.

Soccer is to the US like Basketball is to Africa... we are about the worse place in the world to groom competetive talent. Americans doing exceptional in the EPL, or La Liga, or La Seria (sp?) (the best 3 soccer leagues) are about as rare as Asian stars in the NBA... Clint Dempsey is the best American non-goal-keeper to play in one of those leagues by the way, and he's doing better now than ever.

Oh and there are blacks in those three leagues, they're just mostly from Africa or France.

If AI had his explosiveness like he used to I'd say go for it, but without that he won't have any success as he will obviously be out-skilled. The EPL lower level teams (lets call them single or double A) would own most of our MLS teams.

This.

What an unbelievably horrible thread.

The worst thing is it won't get corrected or closed, because posters have the right to be ****ing stupid, and so from now on every AI conversation is going to come to 'yeah, well, he's so desperate he almost played soccer!' as if it was fact - just like the Delonte West ******** or whatever else.

Ocho Cinco is the first that comes to mind as he actually did... thing is it's not an urban sport.I'm sorry but he failed. I remember him trying to get on KC reserves but they didn't want to hurt his feelings so they gave him some honorary welcome pass if he ever wants to come back to the practice squad. The guy might be a great athlete but he is flat out terrible at soccer. He didn't even have the stamina to keep up. And I disagree that soccer isn't an urban sport. There are tons of clubs/leagues here in NYC. I bet there are a ton more in LA.

This idiot blew through $200 MILLION PLUS! Primarily because he was a drunken, gambling degenerate who spent an inordinate amount of his free time at the casinos. On top of that, he was a shopping addict, going on buying binges doing nothing but purchasing expensive jewelry for himself and his family.
