simple question is who do you want in the rotation? to be fair I think we should invest on the long term big picture and hopefully drabek wins out. guys got frontline stuff, unlike cecil and our pen could use a young long term lefty specialist. cecil dominated lefties last year and if he regains his mph he could be one of the best lefty pen arms in the game, sort of like what scott downs was 4 us. he struggled like many young pitchers and im sure he's going to have some more struggles to go threw before finding himself but drabek just has to much potential and great stuff to be left out of the rotation in my opinion. thoughts?

Both will get over 15 starts this year.

He will be the 6th guy to start the season though

Not sure, but if Cecil gets his velocity back, I think its him. April 1st we have our answer.

drebek. cecil's 15 wins were misleading and drebek has infinetly more potential than cecil, who reminds me of a josh towers or a gustavo chacine.

Ouch. Would hate to be compared to those two guys!!!! May as well throw Jo Jo Reyes in there as well :)

funny how the media always brings up wins when it comes to cecil even tho wins mean very little.

I am a big Cecil fan so I hope he makes the rotation. I want Drabek to make it too, but after last season it may be best for him to start in the minors and work his way back up.

Is neither an option?

Drabek if he can learn to be good. If not, I'll vote neither.

I think Cecil can be a decent bottom of the rotation guy, but probably nothing more, whereas Drabek I still have faith he can become a solid number 2 and maybe even (fingers crossed) an ace.

Cecil should get the opportunity unless he bombs in ST and Drabek is great.

I would have Cecil start and Drabek start the season in AA. AAA is no place for our pitchers.

To me the question should be McGowan or Drabek. But in the end Drabek has options and McGowan not. You have nothing to lose if you give McGowan a chance to prove what he has got and Drabek a chance to prove if he has what it takes to be a MLB pitcher in the minors.

keep the faith in drabek, i guarantee you he will be a star, he and alvarez will be the future within the next two years the likes of romero and morrow will be traded. As for cecil i relle hop that he has gotten his velovity back up i think he can be a very good third starter. Gotta keep the faith guys, this rotation has tons of potential.

I'm sorry but Romero will not be traded any time soon. Morrow I could see getting moved eventually, but not if he takes the step I'm hoping for this year. If morrow breaks out and any of our young pitchers have a break out year this team could be scary good.

If only Cecil had Drabek's velocity or Drabek had Cecil's command :sigh:

I dont want either of them to start the season. But if Drabek can get his act together he would be a nice pitcher to round out the rotation.

Last year at this time, everyone was talking about Drabek and Lawrie as the teams best prospects. People soured on Drabek pretty quick after one bad season. Even Halladay got shelled his first season in the bigs. Despite going against my nature, I'll be an optimist this time and say I still believe Drabek can turn it around.

I think it's do or die for both guys this season. Drabek has more upside, the better arm, better strikeout potential etc but I'm not holding my breath or writing him off until I see his velocity. I really hope he sees a sports psychologist twice a day. He seems to need it.

Hopefully Drabek, hopefully Cecil.

Id rather have Drabek, but I cant really tell yet whats happening with him. Its too close to call which one Id rather have at this point. I voted Danielle Lawrie to show this uncertainty

"In an impressive side session Friday, Drabek clustered about 30 knee-high pitches, pinpointing his fastballs and cutters and showing no sign of the lack of command that ruined his season in 2011. “His mind is quiet,” said an observer. “I wish we could bottle that.”

I really hope it's true. He could be that #2 we've been looking for to plug in behind Ricky.

I think it's Drabek. Kid just needs to get his emotions in check.

If Drabek is ready then he should be there, and then I would make Cecil battle it out with McGowan for the last spot. I think right now though all 3 are in a fight for the last 2 spots. McGowan and Drabek both have all-star "stuff", so I am actually hoping they win the last 2 spots, and Cecil gets moved into the role of Loogy.(Where I have said many times I think he would dominate).

Drabek and McGowan are both huge wild cards imo. Both have the stuff to post an ERA under 3.50 this season and solidify the rotation..However , they both could just as easily post an ERA over 5.50 and ruin it. Should be an interesting year.
