Here's a link to the this weeks power rankings on NBA.com

http://www.nba.com/2012/news/powerrankings/02/13/week7/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt1

I usually check out the power rankings, but I always end up scratching my head after I read them. OKC has been playing consistent basketball all season and has a better record than the Heat, who are first in the power rankings, and though Chicago just lost to Boston (who has been playing well lately, but really only beat a Rose-less Bulls, which is not that impressive), Chicago still have more wins than anybody.

I realize when teams like the Spurs and the Celtics go on a good streat over 7 or 8 games, and take out a couple teams near the top of the standings, that they will get up in the power rankings while teams with a slightly better record drop below them, but sometimes there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the power rankings.

So what do you think of the power ranking system?

Its just the Power Rankings of the week, not the whole season.

I mean to say the suggested up and down rankings are based on the WEEKLY win/loss projections. but yes it is for the whole season

One mans opinion. They're always questionable but it's not done by machine. So he might take into account that Portland got screwed by the refs and while OKC won, it wasn't a winning performance.

Power Rankings are like Bikinis, they're nice to look at, but don't tell the whole story.

Its fun to read but it doesn't have any actual real merit

Miami and Chicago have good offensive and defensive points per 100 possessions (both in top 10). OKC's defensive points per possession is not that good (ranked 14th). I think that might have something to do with it.
