View Full Version : Lakers were considering Iverson..are considering Alston

Some of you may have varying opinions on Stephen A. Smith, but I would advise you to consider the following before passing judgment on the value of a rumor sourced from him. If you ever watch SAS work a room full of All-Stars, it’s just about the most fascinating thing you’ll ever see. He’s one of the very few individuals I’ve ever seen have All-Stars drop what they are doing to go reach out and approach him. This was in public, I can only imagine what happens behind close doors. The long and short of it is that Smith may not be your cup of tea, but he’s not some blogger sitting somewhere making up rumors. That’s my job. KIDDING. (I only make up terrible nicknames.)So this report from him via ESPN on the Lakers being interested in finding the answer to their troubles in The Answer? It’s probably got legs at one end of the vine or the other.

Allen Iverson, who sources indicated the Lakers had some interest in as long as he was willing to go to the NBA Developmental League for a few weeks first, is not the answer. Hes simply not a point guard. The Lakers are also said to be interested in former Toronto Raptors point guard Rafer Alston, who helped the Orlando Magic reach the NBA Finals in 2009. But who knows if that will materialize into anything?

via Showtime is only a memory for Los Angeles Lakers against New York Knicks – ESPN Los Angeles.

“Hey, your offense suffers because it lacks players who can produce off the ball, your big men have been inconsistent, and your best player feels its in his best interest to take 28-plus shots a night, then receives no criticism on drowning the offense because he manages to score 30-plus. I know! Allen Iverson will solve all these problems!” (Note: You can’t really blame Kobe for taking shots when his options are Troy Murphy and Jason Kapono while Andrew Bynum continues his slide back into the cuckoo nest, but it paints a more complete picture of the Lakers’ offensive troubles.)

Allen Iverson will not solve all these problems. Now, it’s clear that this was just a fleeting consideration, a flyer, a “why not?” approach. But it does show how desperate the Lakers are for someone to orchestrate the offense and create opportunities. I mean, Rafer Alston, guys?

Considering Jason Kapono is our backup 2 guard on the worst bench in the nba... I don't blame them.

Free AI..!

02-12-2012, 01:41 PM

The Final Boss
02-12-2012, 01:43 PM
People still listen to this guy?

02-12-2012, 01:49 PM
blah blah blah until the lakers sign someone STOP THESE STUPID THREADS!

02-12-2012, 01:52 PM
Why not just make a trade for Jose Calderon? He'll fit in with the Lakers like butter does with bread.... all we want is a first round pick and someone else

02-12-2012, 02:03 PM
no1 in the past 2 years has considered Iverson, this article is some bull..

02-12-2012, 02:39 PM
 I hope this is not true.

02-12-2012, 03:21 PM
AI and Kobe would have me watching every laker game.

02-12-2012, 03:52 PM
I thought Derek Fisher was a capable PG

02-12-2012, 04:07 PM
Call me geigh. I miss him. I wanna see him make a come back. At least as good as T Mac is now.

02-12-2012, 04:07 PM
I thought Derek Fisher was a capable PG

I see what you did there.

02-12-2012, 04:12 PM
Wow. You know you have a problem when you're considering those two...

02-12-2012, 04:47 PM
sign gilbert and see if it works out. if not then trade for calderon

02-12-2012, 05:04 PM
my preferences

jose calderon(not because of todays effort)
gilbert arenas
ramon sessions
jr smith(although hes mainly an SG, we could easily make him a SF)

rafer alston will fit nice, not great, but nice

AI would be a fantastic comeback story. but is he worth the headache/risk?

02-12-2012, 05:14 PM
I wouldnt listen to him, hes a load of BS

02-12-2012, 05:15 PM
Iverson makes sense as the reserve SG. He knows Kobe is better so he can't *****. He also started with Blake before on a playoff team.

I wouldn't be pissed if Arenas and Iverson were signed because they even now still have a gap on the guards not named Kobe. Plus I could put those two in the backcourt on 2k with Kobe and the towers up front

02-12-2012, 05:22 PM
lol, we are desperated

02-12-2012, 05:39 PM
An Iverson/Kobe combo is going to be bad, and Gasol is going to lead that team in assists.

02-12-2012, 05:50 PM
i don't understand this at all... why don't they give a chance to new players...

02-12-2012, 05:51 PM
Why don't they just trade Gasol + Bynum to NY for Lin, Chandler + Amare?

02-12-2012, 05:55 PM
Why don't they just trade Gasol + Bynum to NY for Lin, Chandler + Amare?

Cause 1. Amare contract is ****
2. We have no cap issues in 2014 i believe

02-12-2012, 06:01 PM
Iverson would instantly become the 4th best player on our team if we signed him. That's how bad the rest of our team is.

02-12-2012, 06:04 PM
I thought Derek Fisher was a capable PG

Good one haha

02-12-2012, 06:05 PM
Cut Fisher. Sign Allen Iverson and Gilbert Arenas.

02-12-2012, 06:06 PM
Why don't they just trade Gasol + Bynum to NY for Lin, Chandler + Amare?

Knicks fans can dream haha

02-12-2012, 06:14 PM
An Iverson/Kobe combo is going to be bad, and Gasol is going to lead that team in assists.

Allen Iverson has a career average of over 6 assists. He had mostly nobodies on his team and was carrying them, still averaging over 6 assists. He is a playmaker and more than a willing passer when he has people to pass the ball to.

02-12-2012, 07:07 PM
If this happens, its a sign of horrible years to come.

Last thing the Lakers need to sign roster fillers. Our fanbase isnt exactly what we call "loyal" and with the Clippers whippin *** like they currently are. Recipe for FAIL!

02-12-2012, 07:55 PM
For those of you suggesting Calderon, he doesn't fit the TPE so the Lakers would have move somebody for him.

02-12-2012, 08:27 PM
For those of you suggesting Calderon, he doesn't fit the TPE so the Lakers would have move somebody for him.

The Raps are not just going to give Calderon away...with the way he has played this year im sure they can get better than a tpe for him

02-12-2012, 08:43 PM
As a Sixer fan, seeing Iverson wear a Lakers jersey would be like a Red Sox fan seeing Big Papi in pinstripes or a Bears fan seeing Mike Ditka with a Packer's Cheese head hat.

I would be devastated.

02-12-2012, 09:11 PM
Say what you will, but a chucking, team cancer, over the hill iverson is still better than kapono at his best.

02-12-2012, 09:13 PM
It's okay, Lakers will end up signing JR Smith and we won't ever hear the names of Allen Iverson, Rafer Alston or Gilbert Arenas linked to the purple and gold. (Although, if we dont get JR, then Gilbert it is!)

02-13-2012, 12:15 AM
Allen Iverson at 34 years old was a better player than Gilbert Arenas at 29 years old. Why any Lakers fan would rather have Gilbert Arenas over AI is beyond me, and is insulting to the history of the game. That said, I'd be completely torn if the Lakers signed AI. Seeing him in purple and yellow would make me physically ill, but I want to see him back in the NBA in the worst way.

And aside from the AI vs. Gilbert thing, Allen Iverson with no arms or legs is a better player than Derek Fisher. Fisher has never been a good player, and how he starts for the Lakers is one of the great mysteries of the universe. He has been a terrible shooter his whole career, a lackluster distributor, and bad defender. His whole career has boiled down to riding the coattails of Shaq and Kobe, and hitting WIDE OPEN 3 pointers.

Skip To My Lou is still alive?

02-13-2012, 01:31 AM
Lakers don't need to sign anyone just mobe troy murphy to pg... problem solved

02-13-2012, 07:58 AM
AI and Kobe would have me watching every laker game.

Agreed... I really want AI to get one more shot!

02-13-2012, 11:49 AM
The Lakers have a gem in Darius Morris. I'd give him some time to prove himself. He reminds me of Rajon Rondo. Never really good as a rookie, but veteran teammates and the Big 3 made him better and want to compete. Look at him now. I think Morris can do some damage with Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum as veterans holding em down.

02-13-2012, 04:18 PM
Mike Brown is big on practice.

02-13-2012, 05:20 PM
In order... Sessions, Arenas, Alston....... Iverson

02-13-2012, 06:03 PM
An Iverson/Kobe combo is going to be bad, and Gasol is going to lead that team in assists.

wicth is why allen iverson carrer assits is 6 per game right?
