2011-12 Power Rankings: Week 6

Miami
18-6
--

Last Week: 1 Applaud the approach: Miami has won 10 of 12, including a high-quality W in Philly, but the Heat haven't been happy with themselves lately, leading to an intense team meeting before Philly. Good to see they realize their focus has been unsteady. Good to hear they don't think they're playing as well as they should be.

Top 4 teams in the East. Damn. I like the Sixers love, and the Pacers are also proving themselves to be for real. Not sure why the Thunder fell to 7, but they won't be down there for long. Look out for the Celtics, they're coming up fast.

No real issues, only that OKC probably shouldn't have dropped to 7th. Yeesh that's rough.

Lakers make the top 10! (#9)

The standings out West are really close from 1-11. 4-5 really good teams will miss the playoffs.

Wow the spurs beat the thunder and all of a sudden they are top 5?

Thunder and arguably LAC should be higher. LAC actually has one of the best records against quality teams.

It's not the fact that they beat the Thunder. They were 4-0 during the week. Since these are Weekly rankings, they are ranked higher.

Don't get me wrong, in a 7 game series I would take the Spurs over the Sixers, Pacers, and even Clippers (match-up wise). His criteria is not as simple as your explanation/defense of the Spurs. It's subjective and inconsistent week in and week out. If people are allowed to float their views around like him, my grandma should write the power rankings.

I agree with you there. I'm shocked the Thunder dropped off so much anyway TBH. Maybe a spot or 2. But, that said I'm sure they'll bounce back up next week. ESPN is usually way off. There are other rankings that probably make more sense. Like this from NBA.com http://www.nba.com/powerrankings/

Spurs is better. 10-7 vs .500 teams compared to 9-7 for the Clippers. Also, they've played the third most difficult schedule in the league without their best player.

Clippers have ranked 1st in strength of schedule and RPI for two weeks pal. They have played 16 of their 22 games against .500 plus opponents. CP3 missed 5 games, Butler 3, Mo 3, list goes on. Clippers have had their fair share of key injuries like everybody else.

Clippers had no training camp or time to gel. Spurs have been together a long time as a group so them handling injuries is much easier. Clippers are the only team with 3 new starters this year.

Clippers have ranked 1st in strength of schedule and RPI for two weeks pal.

And Spurs are ranked 3rd in both. Difference is minimal.

They have played 16 of their 22 games against .500 plus opponents.

And Spurs have played 17 .500 plus-opponents. What's your point. Both teams have had a difficult schedule. Everyone knows this.

CP3 missed 5 games, Butler 3, Mo 3, list goes on. Clippers have had their fair share of key injuries like everybody else.

Spurs have played most of the season without Ginobili and Tj Ford(their backup point). Seeing as these are the only other play-makers on the team besides Parker, it's a significant blow.

Clippers had no training camp or time to gel. Spurs have been together a long time as a group so them handling injuries is much easier. Clippers are the only team with 3 new starters this year.

Duncan/Parker/Ginobili are the only ones that have been together a long time. Danny Green/TJ Ford were added this year. Leonard was also drafted this year and has already become a starter. Gary Neal/Splitter/Anderson were added last year. More than half the team is made up of players that joined this year or last year. This is basically a team rebuilding on the fly.

Chicago should be #1 as of right now. They're ranked 3rd offensively and defensively. No other team is displaying that magnitude of elite play on both ends of the floor.
