View Full Version : DPOTY: Who you got?

Some might have assumed at the start of the season that Dwight Howard had this award locked up, he currently sits at 8th in blocked shots per game, and while stats don't tell you everything about a player's defensive productivity, the voters have, in the past, been inclined to vote for the guys that are either leading the league in steals, or leading the league in blocks. McGee and Jordan are both at 3 blocks per game, more than a full block more than Howard, Ibaka is no slouch on the defensive end either. On top of that, its been a few seasons since the voters pick a back court defender so guys like Conley and CP3 might steal a few votes away from the big guys for their defensive efforts. And well all know that Kobe is a fierce defender and has never been recognized for his effort with this award. Is he a good enough defender to win DPOTY?

Who you got?

Defensive rating is the best indicator for DPOY. The leader has taken the award in at least the last 4 years, I didn't look past that.

How is Andre Igoudala, the best defender on the best defensive team not on the poll? But somehow Jordan and McGee are? Do you watch basketball?

Iggy. Easy. Howard doesn't even have to defend good players.

no iggy? no bron? poll fail

I couldnt possibly fit every good defensive player on the list, so I went with the guys who were near the top for steals and blocks and left the "other" option for anybody who I might have missed.

Iggy is a great defender, so is Grant Hill, so is Billups and Marc Gasol. There are a lot of great defenders not on the list. It wasn't meant as a slight, but more of an issue of pragmatics. There are 32 teams and there is a at least one great defender on each team, yet there the poll maxes out at 24. How is one to go about deciding who gets into the poll?

And Jordan and McGee are two of the most exciting defenders to watch this season. They deserve to be in the poll.

Where the hell are Igoudala and Lebron? Those are the two best overall defenders in the game; Dwight is still the most dominant. Take your pick. Rubio? Westbrook? Kobe? A mod needs to refine this; it's a discussion worth having but the right choices need to be up on the poll or else every other comment will be like mine - just lambasting the weird/dumb options up there.

By knowing what they're talking about.

This is a horrific poll.

I'd like to think that Tony Allen could get a nomination.

Iggy is my pick too. As long as it's not Dwight again. As a Lakers fan, no way Kobe should be even sniffing this poll.

I love seeing Iguadala get the respect he deserves as a defender. Most other aspects of his game annoy me but his defense is just about as good as it gets. 76ers are a contender with him leading the way.

I try not to be a homer but Marcus camby should definitely be mentioned. Leads the league in defense rtg and the blazers are a top 5 team defensively. Beyond that we get killed on the defensive glass when he's out the game.

Maybe if he played more minutes, but at 24.5 mpg he won't even be considered. Thats half the game.

Carlos Boozer??? Really?? :speechless:

The list is awful, Jordan and Mcgee make blocks, they don't defend.
It should be Howard, Lebron, Iggy or Deng imo.
