View Full Version : Is the Knicks fix a guy like Iverson or Arenas?

The Knicks played very well tonight. Their starters played almost as well as they could. The starters combined for 96 points.

The bench had just six. It's a big problem in a year when benches are running the NBA. It's a big problem for the Knicks every night.

I'd like to know from fans, is the fix an older veteran that's a free agent?

I'm looking at two names: Gilbert Arenas and Allen Iverson. Two headaches, but when you have such a horrible bench and it's making it so difficult to score, you have to look at these options. They are pure scorers and it's hard to imagine two guys who were so great as they were not to be able to contribute 5-8 points a night consistently when the stars are out. At 8-14, the Knicks are in a difficult spot, especially with Baron Davis maybe not even coming back at all.

And it's a longshot that JR Smith would take $2.5 million on an 8-14 team.

Thoughts?

I really doubt it. As much as I love AI, there are reasons no team wants either.

The way the Knicks are playing, it's pretty clear they aren't just one bench player away from anything major. They aren't winning anything this year. Given that, they're probably better developing their young guys as best they can rather than giving the minutes to older guys who aren't going to be there when they come around.

I can see Arenas helping the team but not Iverson.

The Knicks starters scored 96 with Korver and Brewer starting for the bulls....neither AI or Arenas will fix their problems

Would hate to see AI play for the Knicks because of the rivalry and I don't want root against him, but AI plays with heart....the Knicks have none. AI still has game, he's obviously been blacklisted out of the league when you see the amount of **** players that teams have on their rosters.

no they arent the "answer" to any NBA team or they would probably already be on a team or have teams competing to sign them

Maybe Arenas, but I think Baron will be better.

That would make things worse... Melo, Arenas/AI, Amare= ballhog city.

we need a passer not a scorer/ b davis better option than both

iverson isnt a ballhog people averaged 8 assist per game in a defensive minded sixers with no offense but his own driving down the lane AI KICKS TO AARON ****ing mckie, george lynch eric ******** jumper snow. everyone loves bashing AI they man can do it all with an offense frontcourt like the knicks i am sure he would find better shots then TD or shump. He was like derrick Rose is now but no one talks about Rose being a ball hog as a point guard. i followed AI career and once he got with Melo in denver he became a pass first as his scorring dipped to the teens. The guy has heart and i am sure being out of the nba for a year and half offered a bench role he will take it.

a 2nd unit of
td or AI at pg
AI or td at SG
fields at SF his natural position
harrelson
jeffries

i am sure you will get alot more bench points due to how spread out the offense will get.

davis/ if comes back healthy if not AI is better ball handler then td
shumpert/ natural 2guard
melo
STAT
chandler

Knicks fix is a top 5 PG and a stud perimeter defender. They should have got bogans for starters

Didn't the Iverson/Melo combo fail miserably? No way another guy who must score will help that team.
Gilbert wouldn't be a terrible addition but too many mouths to feed.

They are in deserpate need of a distributor. I seriously hope there is a backup plan in place incase davis doesn't pan out.

The fact that no one thinks they need Arenas boggles my mind. In a short season, how could it hurt to put a guy like that on your team for half a year. Worst case scenario he does jack ****, and you dont resign him in the offseason. Best case scenario, he rejuvenates his career, and becomes a solid vet off the bench

Nuggets get Amare

Knicks Get A. Miller, W. Chandler, Rudy, and K. Faried

This season is pretty much a wash, free up cap room for Nash and a PF

The answer is using the rest of the bench other than the 8 man rotaition that Dumbtoni uses, especially in a back to back to back.

Don't worry. Once baron comes back, you guys should be a lot better. Remember, he will put your starting PGs to the bench... You guys should focus on getting a decent back-up big man who can platoon PF and C like K-martin.

I'd sign AI if I was NY. Worst case scenario, he b!tche$ about Davis starting over him, skips a couple of practices (I'm talking about practices, not the game, not the game for which I'd die for, but practice. Practice), and gets dropped.

Best case scenario you have a guy that can go off and win you a couple games in the playoffs.

And him and Melo are already friends.

Gil averaged 17 and 6 assts as a starter of 14 of 21 games for Washington before the trade and he lost the starting spot. I don't know how that could not be used to better the team.
