I think he's saying that there aren't many black hockey players so if the OP wants to be racist hockey would be the better sport for him to watch.

i'm still trying to grasp how asking about language is racist.
if i asked for players who speak chinese, looking for yijing li or jeremy li, that's racist too?

So hockey fans are racist? How about Ebonics is a recognized form of speech. Not a great thread but racist it is not. You are a very ignorant person to even think only white people watch hockey, or play it.

This thread is going to be locked shortly but you knew exactly what you were doing when you created this thread and you know your intentions.

Did anyone say that?

Its clear that when you create a thread such as this you are segregating and also stereotyping and the debate will never start well much less end well.

Language has nothing to do with race and everything to do with culture. Someone of Caucasian decent can grow up speaking Ebonics as an Asian person could grow up speaking Spanish. Nothing to do with race.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebonics

Ebonics (from the words ebony and phonics) is a term that was originally intended to refer to the language of all people descended from enslaved Black Africans, particularly in West Africa, the Caribbean, and North America. Since 1996, Ebonics has primarily been used to refer to African American Vernacular English (AAVE), a dialect distinctively different from Standard American English. Since the 1996 controversy over its use by the Oakland School Board, the term Ebonics has come to refer to using the pedagogical tool of teaching Standard American English to native speakers of AAVE by creating a distinction between Standard American English and African American Vernacular English.

http://www.lsadc.org/info/ling-faqs-ebonics.cfm

At its most literal level, Ebonics simply means 'black speech' (a blend of the words ebony 'black' and phonics 'sounds'). The term was created in 1973 by a group of black scholars who disliked the negative connotations of terms like 'Nonstandard Negro English' that had been coined in the 1960s when the first modern large-scale linguistic studies of African American speech-communities began.

Ebonics stems from ebony (meaning BLACK in colour) and phonics. So if you think the manner of speaking has NOTHING to do with race then that's fine but just know that your opinion is wrong.

This doesn't make any sense. Its common knowledge that Hockey has a lower % of Afro descendent athletes than basketball so if you want to be stereotypical it would be the better sport to watch. He never said Hockey doesn't have any black athletes or fans. If that is what is understood by that then the reader isn't comprehending it properly.

So if you talk about the Spanish language does it only relate to Spanish people? We speak English but lots of us are not English. Just because a language is in its infancy and originated from the African American culture doesn't mean its racist to talk about the language and who speaks it. I will reiterate that this is a dumb thread and I think there was an agenda but language doesn't equal race. I live in an interracial marriage with mixed kids and deal with racism all the time but never when it comes to a form if communication. Just my opinion.

There's reasons why threads like this don't work.
Had I seen it sooner, it wouldn't have made 37 posts.
Whether or not it's racist, you will have opinions that argue it is. This forum is built for NBA talk, not to know what players do and don't speak slang.
