Andrew Bynum is winning the voting for starter hands down, if he goes injured D Jordan woudl enter as second more voted.

So, who do you think coaches would call up as Center Back Up?

D Jordan ( second in votations)
Tim Ducan ( respect call)
Pau Gasol ( respect Call)
Marc Gasol
Al jefferson.
M Gortat.

Other?

Hopefully Jordan. **** the respect calls, it's the most deserving that the FANS want to see -- hence being second in voting

Duncan and Pau shouldn't even be considered. I think it comes down to Jordan, Marc Gasol and Gortat. Gortat's putting up better numbers so I'll go ahead and be a homer and pick him. :D

It will be Timmy but Al Jefferson deserves it

He is doing FAR worse numbers than Marc, Al and Marcing.

Just telling you.

And im not playing the "fans want it" card , Rubio is nowhere near to deserve being in ( except for the fun game part of it) and with your logic he would enter the game, since he is the third guard with most votes.

Coaches might put Kevin Love as an all-star reserve center.

I thought they still have to go by position with the reserves? If thats the case then it'll probably be Marc Gasol but if not then Pau will get the respect call. Actually its not even respect, his numbers are pretty good but we've just seen him play way better.....

Slide one of the many available PF into the center slot. Gasol, Nowitski, Alridge, Love, etc.

Jordan?? 7 points 8 rebounds per game.. not all-star material no matter how thin the Center position is.

Marc Gasol is putting up better numbers, as is Tim Duncan and Nene.

bovice163
01-22-2012, 01:49 AM
Most likely Gasol, but I wouldn't mind seeing Gortat in there. He's putting up great numbers starting at C, as his per36 always suggested. Gasol is very deserving this year, but Gortat is far too underrated on this board.

Marc Gasol is on the top 10 of 12 different statistical categorys this season.
Wow, talk bout being silently good.

Going by centers only, I'd have to go with either Marc Gasol or Al Jefferson. Both are putting up high numbers and both have played a big role in both their teams early success.

Young2Kinsler

Marc Gasol, the better player than his brother, and best C in the west, should not only be the backup in this case, but should start the ASG

They don't have to put in a traditional center. My guess? Love or Aldridge is named the reserve center.

If Duncan is again, I will puke. My god coaches, spend more then 3 minutes thinking about it please.

I think Marc, and of course I am prejudiced but he seems to be a true throwback type of center . Hard worker; takes and gives with the best; brings out the best in the teammates around him and was productive last year and is doing it again.
Not much flash to Marc Gasol........just pure hard work and determination

Gortat is having a monster season averaging career high numbers and leading the league in fg% if he doesnt get in it will be total bs.

Hawkeye15
01-22-2012, 08:12 PM
Again, you have to remember they can give a PF that 2nd spot, and they should if there is a PF clearly outplaying all 2nd options at C in the west, which is exactly what is happening.

Hawkeye15
01-22-2012, 08:13 PM
example: Love plays around 19-20 minutes a game at center. He is a 24.5/14.5 player. You do not leave him off the roster. They may very well just throw him in as a center.

mzgrizz
01-22-2012, 08:53 PM
Why wouldn't Love make it as a PF which is his true position?

Call me a homer but I think DeMarcus should be. Behind the starter, Bynum, his numbers are almost the same. 2 pts less and .8 rbds less while playing 5.5 minutes less, while only being in his 2nd year.

But then again, all star games mean nothing

Why not Nene, D. Jordan, or Al Jefferson? These teams have comparable records, and in the case of the Clippers a better record.

Al Jefferson for sure, Nene has been underperforming IMO. There is no clear cut all-star in Denver than maybe besides Gallo.

MGasol, Cousins and Big Al are right there with Bynum in the West, so it's basically your pick... Greg Monroe should be the backup C in the East.

Pistons are horrible, and Roy Hibbert is much better individually on a better Pacers team. He deserves it by far.

Hibbert is on the better team but in way is he better individually. Monroe has him trumped in all statistical categories except blocks. If all things are equal than the teams winning percentage should sway the vote, but if the individual players' number is too good to ignore then he should be voted in. I'm not saying this is the case for Monroe but i'm saying this is why or how the process tends to go. You can't just posit the fact that team record is the main factor, if so how did Blake Griffin make the squad last year?

Wrong; Roy is on a better team, but individually it isn't comparable. Roy is only better at shot blocking, Monroe is better in each and every other facet of the game.

You can make the argument that Monroe is probably one of the main scoring options on Detroit while Roy has to succumb to Granger and George etc.

Cousins should definitely be on the short list. Given the fact that my Kings are not a winning team right now, I can understand that Marc Gasol is given the spot instead of him.

I would also be OK with it if players that play PF make it instead of some of the Centers because they are better.

He only has a 0.9% higher USG rate than Roy so that isn't an excuse. He's the better passer, scorer, rebounder (barely) and only in his sophmore season... He definitely looks to be on the right track, is currently the superior individual player and developing fast.

But I DON'T want him to make it... I think it could do more harm than good.

It clearly should be Jefferson ... maybe, just maybe Gasol. Nene has been ultra mediocre.... Gortat and Cousins play for losing teams. The rest of the Centers are pretty much role players.

I mean it is close obviously. Gortat shoots 55% while Cousins shoots 45% (which is not that good for a low post big). Both are deserving and whoever makes it, I won't complain.
