This. Is it really a good idea for Kobe to be playing through the entire summer?

KB-Pau-DH2012

this should be it.

Lamar is too mentally out of it. The guy should just stay home and take care of his family and personal issues.

And I want to retract my pick in saying that we only need one of two guys in Rudy Gay or Andre Iguodala, and since defense is always welcomed, I'll go with Iggy over Gay.

And I'll add in Lamarcus Aldridge as the backup PF to LeBron.

Centers that can go out and both shoot threes if he stays put in the middle and pass the ball effectively to other player inside, if Howard goes out to chase them.

Would Aldridge be better off at C internationally?

Raph12

My 12-Man USA Senior Men's Olympic Roster:
PG - Chris Paul/Deron Williams
SG - Eric Gordon/Dwyane Wade/Andre Iguodala
SF - LeBron James/Kevin Durant/Carmelo Anthony
PF - Kevin Love/Blake Griffin
C - Dwight Howard/LaMarcus Aldridge

Although Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook are very good players, I think CP3 and DWill are better PGs.

Having KLove in the starting lineup would allow Dwight to contest every shot without having to worry about rebounding; plus he can stretch the floor with his range.

Kobe Bryant is a great player despite his age, but I think worrying about his injuries would always be on the back of my mind and may end up hurting the team more than helping.

Having EG start in Wade's place is only to better compliment the starters, he could play off-ball and is a good shooter who'd spread the floor which would make it easier to get dribble-penetration and post looks.

Melo is on the team to provide a big scoring punch when needed, while Iggy is there in case they need a lock-down defender/good team player (great passer, fills the lanes well, etc) to come in and help out when needed.

Wade thrived in his role as a scorer off of the bench in the last Olympics, I think with him, KD and BG coming off the bench with DWill and LA they provide a dynamic combination of scoring, athelticism, post-prowess, defense, length and size. Having them compete with the starters in practise would really help their play on the court against opposing teams.

Each player would get 12-20mpg, with Wade replacing EG and Durant replacing KLove to close games out.

Dwight Howard will be one of the most important people on the team considering that their main rival will be Spain. Spain will have a really strong front court with 3 quality bigs with Marc and Pau Gasol and Serge Ibaka. His rebounding ability and defense on those guys will outweigh any struggles he will have in FIBA play.

Coach needs to decide between Him and Mirotic on the roster ( due to FIba rules they cant play the same time).

Mirotic is way better than Ibaka ;) Ibaka seemed lost when he played in this 2 month period in Spain, while Mirotic is always improving and he's become a lethal offensive player.

Depending on the US roster, Spain can be the favorites for Gold this year.

I like Lithuania, if they are all healthy that is.
France can cause problems with their athleticism and good shooting.
I see Lithuania, one of Russia/Greece and Puerto Rico making it from the Qualifiers to complete the 12 team tournament. For Greece, it all depends on Diamantidis opting to play or not. But I think he's getting married in July so he won't make it, hence Russia will make it instead.

Great Britain would be relatively ok but I don't they beat anyone other than an African or Asian team. Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, Joel Freeland.... that's about it from quality players and I don't think Ben Gordon will play.

As for USA, Melo must play at the 4 spot. Lebron shouldn't even go, they call travelling in FIBA rules and I don't think it's going to be like the 2010 tournament where no one cares and they let such calls go. They will be as strict as hell in the Olympics. Iguodala is essential for the USA as he's the best defender in this style of play, despite the fact that he can't shot.

Rose and Kobe are better off resting over the summer with all the injuries they had this year, same prob goes for Eric Gordon he shouldnt risk getting hurt going it free agency.

I think Iggy will make the roster again every team needs that lock perimeter defender especially in euro ball. He beat out Gay last time around and I'd expect the same result. I do agree with the above post replacing Harden with Billups too

PF: Love/Bosh/Griffin
C: Dwight

I don't think coach K leaves off his '08 guys (other than the obvious ones), he doesn't seem like the type. Personally I only take 2 point guards (Rose and CP3) and two PFs (Love and LMA). I use the two roster spots left on another center (Chandler) and a shooter (Gordon).

Id go with

c.paul./d.rose.d.will
kobe/wade
lebron/durant/iggy
love/bosh
howard/chandler

I think this would be the most solid and reliable line up.

Iggy will make it for sure I would think. Designated lock down wing defender, and let LeBron roam like a safety again.

PG: Chris Paul

Wings: Durant and Lebron

PF: Kevin Love

C: Dwight Howard

It has everything.

agreed. That is exactly the starting lineup I would suggest. You have the best distributor in the NBA arguably, who can also score, scorers/slashers at the wings, 2 GREAT defenders in Bron and Dwight, and great shooting in Love/Durant/Paul, and will own the boards with Dwight/Love/Bron.

Rose/Westbrook would be handy scorers off the bench playing the 1 or 2, IMO. I'd have CP3 as the starting PG.

Although I could see Dwill over Westbrook or Chandler over Aldrige

With Rose's injury concerns this year i doubt he goes, Lamarcus is out, Chauncey is out, and Odom is out. So i think it will be:

Paul, Williams, Westbrook
Kobe, Wade
Durant, Melo, Iggy
LBJ, Love,
Dwight, Chandler

I'm not sure if they'll add someone to that list but out of those 20 players I'd go with:

PG - Paul/Williams/Westbrook
SG - Kobe/Wade/Gordon
SF - LeBron/Melo
PF - Durant/Love
C - Howard/Bosh

Billups, Aldridge and Odom are out. I went with Westbrook over Rose cuz I think Rose is taking the summer off and with LeBron and Melo back there is really no need for Iggy and Gay.

I only went with 3 bigs in Howard, Bosh and Love cuz there is no need for them. In 2008 there were Howard (130min), Bosh(138min) and Boozer(48min) and they only combined for 316min out of 640min playing PF and C (Melo was starting PF). In 2010 there were Chandler(77min), Love(79min) and Odom(198min) and they only combined for 354min out of 720min (Durant was starting PF).
