View Full Version : Could psd put a "scrub" in the asg?

We decide on one of the worst players available to vote.

Then we ALL proceed to vote him daily.

Maybe even do the cookies trick ( if you delete them you can vote more than once a day).

What would Stern do?

He is eligible, isnt it?

No.

Just rough math guesses....
maybe 10k members that visit the forum everyday
maybe 3k that visit the NBA forum
maybe 100 that you could convince to do this nonsense with you

At the end of the day you need around 1 million votes to get in starter discussion. Even if you got all 10k members of my guesstimate you'd need them to vote 100 times between now and February 26th. Go vote, clear your cookies, and repeat that 5 times, and see how bored out of your mind you are doing it. Now think about doing it 100 times.

Nope. Last year the starter with the least votes was Yao with 1,146,426, so you'd likely need at least that much. Voting goes for 15 more days. Even if the target was reduced to 800,000 because of the lockout, and we all did 10 per day, you'd need over 5000 people. There aren't even close to that many regulars who'd do it.

Your only chance would be to wait until next year and for it to become a real thing beyond PSD, ie get it on twitter and get some national (and international) coverage for the campaign, and have it be someone that a lot of people could get behind, and in a position where there isn't anyone else that is hugely popular. For example, you could make a pretty good campaign for someone like Greg Oden over Bynum.

Who cares on the numbers, might as well try; it's sad how people like to shoot down the idea without even trying it. Look at it like this, even if we can push the biggest scrub on the ballot to finish 5th at their respective position, that would be hilarious and would definitely get some media attention lol.

So who are we voting? I say we go for Joel Anthony because he has a realistic shot to win 2nd place in the centre voting in the East lol

The numbers matter because the question was can it be done - the numbers mean everything to the answer. Nobody was saying it isn't a good or fun idea, we were just answering the question.

And it can't be Anthony - his irrelevance is perfect, but too many people hate the Heat too much so it won't catch on. It has to be someone most people are neutral about.

If it has to be someone on the ballot I'd try Turk, Maggette, Gerald Henderson. Henderson is probably the best if you don't care about actually getting them in.

I actually started a campaign here to get Yi in the ASG over Kevin Garnett one year. He was only 100k behind, though I doubt PSD had much to do with that.

I would be necessary to vote for either a forward or a guard, because there's two spots for each and you're not beating out Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum at this point. You're best chance would be to vote for someone who's close to making it, but is just short. According to (http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/allstar-balloting-leaders-120112.html) your best bet would likely be voting in Dirk Nowitzki over Blake Griffin, as they're only separated by 163k votes.

Kevin Durant Oklahoma City 633,538
Blake Griffin L.A. Clippers 394,264
Dirk Nowitzki Dallas 231,832
Pau Gasol L.A. Lakers 185,428

But that would ahve 0 point, not to mention that it would be doing the right thing vs sterns new baby toy who does NOT deserve by any means to start in the asg.

The point is show the league the voting thing is absurd and no longer mantenaible.

And you dont make that by taking a dude that can be an allstar in.
You dont make it by taking a dude that is a GOOD starter ir ( like artest or calderon)

You have to put in someone that is clearly not deserving, one of the wrost starters in the league like Joel anthony or Derek Fisher.

lol this is a hilarious idea, i love it. realistically though i think the idea came up a lil too late. next year if we started early, and got the word out to others via twitter, facebook, etc. i think we may have a shot. itd take quite a bit of dedication, but itd totally be worth it haha. i think we'd have to pick the worst player at a position that isnt overrun with talent already though.

There's no way any sort of internet campaign alone could garner enough votes to bump a Blake Griffin with a scrub. It would have to be someone who was getting votes anyway. That's why the Yi situation was so perfect, because he was getting votes from China despite being bench fodder. If you started earlier, you might have started a campaign to get Jimmer Fredette in, there are plenty of Jimmer fans throughout the country.

why dont we create a poll so we can actually pick someone.

i would love to pick someone who would snub an other wise lock in for a starter. like stat or bosh. lets snub them. lets pick any pf to start over them.

LongWayFromHome

Western Conference F will be the easiest position to vote somebody in. The second place vote getter (2nd starter) has the lowest of any other starter in the first returns.

KingsPhillies
01-16-2012, 04:13 PM
Some of you are much too short-sighted. The campaign would have to start here on PSD, and then we would have to try and make it spread across the internet. So while it may not be plausible, it's certainly possible. With how the internet is set up for networking these days, I think it's worth a shot.

I think we should give it a shot this year as sort of a trial run. We should have no expectations, and just see what happens. Then, next year, we'll have a much better idea of what we would need to do to really have a chance at succeeding.

It's kinda sad to see how many quitters there are here on PSD. How do you know something is impossible until you try?

Even if you did it everyday until voting stops, you wouldn't get near enough votes to make a dent. As of January 12th, Howard has 754k votes, ~18 days into the voting. Not enough active users here if you were to project it, sorry.

The estimated metrics I seen for psd overall was ~150k hits per month, 87% of which are visits, and the numbers are on a decline.

I say next year (if I'm still around) we come to a consensus as to who the worst player is, or at least who the most comical pick would be. Then we try to get all other forums to join in and vote. This could potentially go very viral and actually work. Imagine it getting some ESPN coverage because of how trendy it gets on Facebook and Twitter.
