View Full Version : Report: Horford done for the year

GodsSon

Hawks center Al Horford expected to be out 3-4 months with torn left pectoral muscle, source tells Yahoo! Sports.

Link (http://twitter.com/#!/SpearsNBAYahoo/statuses/157554447281696768)

That would be a MASSIVE blow to the Hawks

More need for a center, but nothing to give up for one, since Horford was the big trade piece. Lame.

This will also prob make ownership think that this core should have one more year.....

trade josh smith to the C's asap

Swashcuff
01-12-2012, 04:39 PM
Wow he was one of the few Cs (though it may not be his natural position) who didn't have serious injury concerns. Now both him and Brook Lopez are going to miss a considerable amount of time. This really sucks. He's one of my favourite players in the league.

The injury bug is starting to rear it's ugly head in this condensed season and we can blame the NBA and owners for that; as there are way too many minutes being thrown at these guys.

Even Bargs is having an MRI done today to check for possible tearing in his calf. Not good.

*Silver&Black*
01-12-2012, 04:41 PM
Could be great for the Hawk's future though. To show they need to rebuild, not hurting Horford in the process (so we don't trade him). Trade deadline could be rebuild time if our standings drop. Good thing we didn't trade the 2012 pick.......yet.

Hawks should have a yard sale for 2012 draft picks. Keep Teague and Horford, tank, stack up on draft picks.

Joe and Josh will have a contest on who can be the biggest ball hog (like last night). This will hurt Teague and his development. Josh already acts like he is the PG of this team.

its not such a big blow but it will affect the hawks chances of winning. However, horford hasnt been as good as he was in the past, his numbers arent great as well. The hawks had the 4th and 5th seed in years back yet they are below that this year. they can slide josh smith to his natural 4 and give marwin williams more playing time at the 3

fake Hawks fan? Who would want to be a fake Hawks fan? Did Lebron just get traded to the Hawks or something?

Joe and Josh WILL NOT CARRY anything. With Horford, we are a 2nd round playoff exit. Without Horford, we are just sitting ducks. We should atleast rebuild.

You can't fully rebuild without trading Joe Johnson anyway. Just stop complaining and play ball. Portland had every reason to rebuild but they stayed the course, without tanking horrifically.

The only good news if they could somehow land a Center who could move Horford to his natural PF position. Big blow to the Hawks though..

Portland has a great coach/GM. They also play team ball and have a couple of good big guys. We have none of those things and our best player being 30 years old and still have over $100 million on contract.

If you actually think without Horford we have a better shot at advancing past the 2nd round, then by all means keep course. But even with Horford we wasn't going anywhere past the 2nd round.

RobertHorryFan

Most overrated player in the league IMO. Too bad he got injured though.

reffahead
01-12-2012, 06:52 PM
Two big differences between Horford and Lopez. Al is locked up 4 more years at 12 million a year.

Lopez got injured on his contract year. Horford had a muscle tear on his left pectoral if not mistaken. He basically never uses his left at all on offense. Lopez injured his foot that requires a screw to fix.

How does Portland have a great GM when he got fired. They lost their franchise 2 guard and franchise center not to mention Pryzbilla. If we can get a top ten draft pick so be it. We can have a strong season next year. But to blow up the roster just because one player is going to miss 3 months is ***** cat as hell. You can't truly rebuild and have Joe Johnson on the roster.

Let me know of teams that are willing to trade for a guy that can't finish at the rim without a floater or get to the line, a prerequisite for players at his position.

Who is going to pay him 23 million a year for him starting this summer when he can't even get amnestied. This is madness.

Yep, Hawks' owners basically mandated ECF or else before the season, so that's over. Best case scenario, 7th or 8th seed with Josh and Joe raising their trade value, blown out in the first round, terrible coach and terrible GM finally get fired, and start over with Teague and Horford.

Bravo95

Exactly. Anyone who has been a fan of this team over the years with all of the BS they put their fans through, we deserve some kind of award or refund for sticking by these clowns. :laugh2: Few if any sports franchises have alienated their fans more over the past 20 years. Giving the Heat or Bulls a nice little series should not be the goal, it should be "winning a championship" but they don't even talk about that.

This will hurt Teague and his development. Josh already acts like he is the PG of this team.
That's the worst part of this. Drew is in the last year of his deal so he's going to look out for his own *** and go with the hot hand. He's going to start pulling Teague off the floor after every mistake even more now, trying to kill his confidence.

He can stick around with Horford and a bunch of guys on rookie contracts or we can just straight cut him. There is also that chance a team desperate for that 1 guy to put them over trades for him. I know Celtic fans have wanted Smith and will gladly take Joe's contract in exchange for the expiring Ray and KG (maybe add a 1st for the Hawks to get something out of it). That is one way to rebuild for the Hawks.

BTW, Hawks had a great night tonight. Josh Smith had a double double with 30 points. Joe close to a triple double. Teague with 8 assists. 30 point win. We'll see what happens.
